Job Description:

The Director, Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A) is responsible for leading financial planning, forecasting, analysis, and reporting activities in support of The Mutual Group's (TMG) Member institutions. This role provides strategic financial input to Member leadership, supporting Member-owned business strategy.


The Director, FP&A, partners closely with TMG Accounting, Treasury, Actuarial, IT and senior leaders at our Member institutions to deliver clear, timely, and insightful financial information that supports sustainable growth, disciplined cost management, equitable cost allocation, and long term value creation for TMG's Member institutions.

Work Arrangement:

  • Employees who live within 30 miles of the TMG home office are expected to follow a hybrid or in-office schedule. The initial training period may require additional inoffice days.

Accountabilities:

Financial Planning, Budgeting & Forecasting (Members)

  • Lead the annual Member financial planning process, including production, expense, loss, cash and balance sheet planning, as well as quarterly reforecasts.

  • Ensure financial plans appropriately balance operational investment, expense discipline, and Member value.

Member-Focused Financial Analysis & Reporting

  • Oversee the preparation of Member-related financial reporting and analysis, including expense allocations, by-line financials, and drivers of Member earnings.

  • Ensure transparency and consistency in cost allocation methodologies, in coordination with accounting and corporate actuarial.

  • Translate complex financial results into clear, actionable insights for Members, leadership, and internal TMG stakeholders.

Strategic Decision Support

  • Provide financial leadership and analytical support for Member-owned strategic initiatives, product and service offerings, operational improvements, and Member service enhancements.

  • Conduct cost-benefit analyses, ROI assessments, and financial impact modeling (including expense vs. capitalization considerations) to support informed decision-making.

  • Support due diligence and financial modeling related to Member related M&A activity, joint ventures, and other strategic growth opportunities.

  • Provide insight on financial risks and opportunities arising from strategic initiatives.

Leadership & Cross-Functional Partnership

  • Serve as a trusted financial advisor to Member executive leadership, TMG business unit leaders, and other Member-facing teams.

  • Partner closely with Accounting to ensure alignment between FP&A outputs, statutory reporting, and underlying financial records.

  • Collaborate with Corporate Actuarial on financial projections and Member-level financial insights.

Process Improvement & Finance Transformation

  • Lead and support finance transformation initiatives, including enhancements to FP&A systems, business intelligence tools, reporting automation, and planning processes.

  • Establish and improve financial governance, metrics, and analytical standards to strengthen decision-making and accountability.

  • Continuously improve data quality, reporting efficiency, and analytical rigor.

External & Regulatory Support

  • Assist in the preparation of Member-owned materials for rating agencies, regulators, auditors, and other external stakeholders, as applicable.

  • Provide financial analysis and support for regulatory filings and Member communications as needed.

  • All other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related field; CPA, CFA, or MBA preferred.

  • 8+ years of progressive experience in financial planning & analysis, accounting, or related disciplines.

  • Strong working knowledge of statutory accounting principles; experience in P&C insurance or financial services strongly preferred.

  • Demonstrated experience with financial modeling, management reporting and cost allocation methodologies.

  • Proven ability to communicate complex financial concepts clearly to executive leadership and non-finance stakeholders.

  • Public accounting and/or public company experience preferred.

  • Member-first mindset

  • Strong presence with the ability to communicate complex financial matters to TMG and Member executives, regulators, and private equity partners.

Pay Range:

Anticipated Hiring Range:

  • $165,000 - $200,000annual base salary depending on experience, qualifications, and geographic location
