Director Eplan information

What does a Director Eplan do?

A Director Eplan is responsible for overseeing the implementation and management of EPLAN, a specialized software used for electrical engineering design and documentation. They lead teams that develop electrical schematics, ensure project standards are met, and streamline workflows using EPLAN tools. Additionally, the Director Eplan coordinates between engineering, IT, and project management departments to optimize processes and drive efficiency in electrical design projects. Their expertise ensures that EPLAN solutions are effectively integrated into company operations and that staff are trained on best practices.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Director Eplan, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Director of Eplan, you need extensive experience in electrical engineering, project management, and in-depth knowledge of Eplan software, often supported by a relevant engineering degree. Expertise in Eplan Electric P8, AutoCAD, and proficiency with ERP systems and industry standards are typically required, along with certifications in Eplan or electrical design. Strong leadership, problem-solving, and communication skills enable effective team management and cross-department collaboration. These skills ensure efficient project delivery, high-quality electrical designs, and alignment with organizational goals in complex engineering environments.

What are some common challenges faced by a Director Eplan when coordinating with multidisciplinary engineering teams?

A Director Eplan often encounters the challenge of aligning team members from various engineering disciplines, such as electrical, mechanical, and project management, to ensure seamless project execution. Differences in workflows, documentation standards, and communication styles can create bottlenecks or misunderstandings. To address these challenges, Directors typically implement standardized processes, regular cross-functional meetings, and integrated Eplan platform training to promote collaboration and efficiency. Proactive problem-solving and clear communication are essential to maintaining project timelines and quality.

What is the difference between Director Eplan vs Eplan Engineer?

AspectDirector EplanEplan Engineer
CredentialsTypically requires extensive experience in electrical design and leadership, often with certifications in Eplan softwareRequires technical training or certification in Eplan software and electrical engineering fundamentals
Work EnvironmentLeads teams, manages projects, and oversees electrical design processesPerforms detailed electrical schematics, software configuration, and design tasks
Industry UsageUsed in large-scale projects, manufacturing, and automation industriesCommonly employed in electrical design departments across various industries

In summary, a Director Eplan focuses on leadership, project management, and strategic oversight of electrical design using Eplan software, while an Eplan Engineer handles detailed design work and technical implementation. Both roles require proficiency in Eplan but differ in scope and responsibilities.

Job description

At LiquidStack, we’re redefining what’s possible in the data centre world. As a global leader in advanced liquid cooling solutions, we’re powering the future of AI, edge computing, and high-performance systems. Our team is growing, and we’re looking for skilled professionals who want to be part of something innovative and impactful.

About LiquidStack

LiquidStack is the established leader in liquid cooling for data center, HPC, and AI workloads, with manufacturing, R&D, and headquarters in Carrollton, Texas and a longstanding engineering presence in Hong Kong. As part of Trane Technologies, we are scaling our US‑based engineering capability to augment our Hong Kong team. The new Texas engineering team will focus on the design, development, and delivery of large Coolant Distribution Units (CDUs) and skidded direct-to-chip platforms — including our GigaModular CDU family — for hyperscale, colocation, and AI infrastructure customers. The team will own manufacturability, ETL / CSA / CE / NEC / NRTL compliance, and customer‑facing engineering for these product families, working in close collaboration with the Hong Kong team on shared architecture and component engineering. The Electrical team is responsible for power distribution, motor control, instrumentation wiring, and end‑to‑end UL / NRTL compliance for CDU and skidded platforms.

Role Summary

Senior individual contributor and technical authority on electrical design and global electrical code compliance.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design power distribution and control wiring for skidded CDUs, including main disconnects, branch circuits, VFDs, and instrumentation.
  • Develop electrical schematics, panel layouts, and wiring diagrams (AutoCAD Electrical, EPLAN, or SolidWorks Electrical).
  • Ensure compliance with UL 508A, NFPA 79, NEC (NFPA 70), and applicable local codes.
  • Coordinate with NRTLs (UL, Intertek, CSA) on listings and field labels for US‑built systems.
  • Support panel build, factory acceptance testing (FAT), and on‑site commissioning.
  • Collaborate with the Hong Kong electrical team on shared component selection and architecture.
Additional Responsibilities
  • Own electrical architecture for new CDU platforms, including short‑circuit and arc‑flash analysis.
  • Lead NRTL engagement and certification strategy.
  • Establish electrical design standards and review gates.
  • Mentor the Electrical Engineer and Electrical Technician.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • 10+ years of industrial electrical design experience.
  • Deep expertise in UL 508A, NFPA 79, and NEC.
  • Experience leading NRTL certification efforts for industrial equipment.
  • PE license a strong plus.
Why Join Us?
  • Competitive pay with opportunities for overtime
  • Consistent day‑shift schedule
  • Paid time off, holidays, and great benefits
  • Be part of an industry‑disrupting company with room to grow
  • Work on innovative technologies in a collaborative, supportive environment
