Job Overview
The Director of Paint & Fabrication provides strategic and operational leadership for multi-shift Paint (load, e-coat, powder coating, unload) and Fabrication operations. This role drives safety, quality, delivery, and cost performance while advancing continuous improvement, workforce development, and adherence to the Rittal Production System (RPS).
The Director is responsible for long-range planning, team development, process optimization, and cross-functional collaboration to support both daily operations and future growth.
Key ResponsibilitiesLeadership & Strategy
  • Lead the Paint and Fabrication departments across all three shifts.
  • Develop long-term operational strategies and capacity plans.
  • Align operations with Rittal Production System (RPS) principles.
  • Communicate business goals, performance, and updates to teams and leadership.
Operational Management
  • Ensure safe, efficient execution of production schedules.
  • Manage KPIs for safety, quality, delivery, cost, and employee engagement.
  • Oversee workflow efficiency, resource allocation, and equipment utilization.
  • Ensure adherence to 6S, TPM, and preventive maintenance standards.
Continuous Improvement
  • Lead Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, and RPS initiatives.
  • Identify and justify new technologies, equipment, and process improvements.
  • Drive cost-reduction and waste-elimination activities.
People & Culture
  • Develop and mentor supervisors, managers, and technical staff.
  • Foster a collaborative, high-performance culture focused on accountability.
  • Provide clear expectations, coaching, and performance feedback.
  • Support workforce planning, training, and succession development.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
  • Partner with Engineering, Maintenance, Quality, Supply Chain, and HR.
  • Resolve production challenges and support new product/process launches.
  • Work with vendors and internal teams to improve quality and productivity.
Budget & Resource Management
  • Manage departmental budgets and long-range capital plans.
  • Balance staffing, equipment, and material resources to meet business needs.

Requirements
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
  • Strong organizational and multitasking skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
  • Self-motivated, detail-oriented, and capable of independent decision-making.
  • Willingness to spend extended time on the shop floor.
  • Frequent standing, walking, bending, and reaching required.
  • Ability to lift up to 25 lbs occasionally.

Qualifications & Experience
  • 7+ years of leadership experience in paint, fabrication, or welding operations.
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Operations, or related field preferred.
  • Experience managing large-scale fabrication and high-volume operations.
  • Strong understanding of e-coating, powder coating, fabrication, and automation.
  • Demonstrated success implementing Lean, Six Sigma, or continuous improvement.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office
  • Experience with MRP/ERP systems; SAP experience preferred.
  • Excellent interpersonal, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
