Salary range: $40.03 to $56.04 per hour
Job Description
**This is a remote position with the exception of the training period. Preference to those who live in the Greater Spokane, WA and North Idaho area. This position can support remote work from the following states: Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Oregon, Virgina, Washington and Wyoming.
Position Overview:
The Senior Home Loan Underwriter is responsible for analyzing and rendering home loan lending decisions consistent with STCU policies, STCU product details and secondary market investor guidelines. As a senior level position, this role works independently while also providing mentorship and support to other roles as needed.
Core Job/Requirements/Outcomes
  • Demonstrate full proficiency and knowledge of home loan underwriting guidelines and maintain compliance with all regulatory standards by staying up to date on all applicable agency rules, investor guidelines and STCU product guidelines.
  • Determine borrower ability to repay and, property and program eligibility by reviewing and analyzing income documentation, asset documentation, credit reports, appraisals, AVMs, title reports, etc. as well as validating AUS findings.
  • Ensure alignment with STCU's risk-tolerance standards and portfolio quality by applying strong problem-solving, sound judgment, and rigorous scrutiny to analyze the suitability of exception requests and complex loans-such as construction and jumbo loans-and recommend approval or denial as appropriate.
  • Maintain compliance with the department business plan by meeting applicable service level agreements and established production goals for number of loans underwritten.

Other Essential Functions
  • Act as a senior member of the underwriting team by providing key feedback, mentoring and training to loan officers, processors and other underwriters when needed.
  • Serve as a representative of the Home Loan underwriting team in various STCU projects, committees and/or CI initiatives
  • Complete various on-going third-party training requirements as needed to maintain knowledge or as assigned by VP of Home Loan Underwriting.
  • Contribute to the development of STCU's culture and strategic vision; the achievement of organizational goals; and support and emulate the STCU Core Values.
  • Exercise strong communication skills by communicating loan decisions effectively and timely within established standards.

Qualifications
Education: High school diploma or equivalent required...Bachelor's Degree in business, finance or related field or equivalent combination of education and experience preferred.
Certifications: MBA Certified Residential Underwriter (CRU) and FHA Direct Endorsement (DE) designations are preferred.
Job Experience: Minimum of five years of independent mortgage underwriting experience required. Prior experience in government underwriting is highly preferred.
Software Skills: Previous experience with loan origination software is required. Proficient knowledge of working with an AUS system and operating in a paperless environment required. Knowledge of Encompass is preferred. Proficient knowledge of MS Office programs including Outlook, Word, Excel and Teams.
Other Skills: Knowledge of policies, procedures and established processes to support compliance requirements.
Physical Demands: Must be able to regularly talk, hear and operate a computer, keyboard and mouse and occasionally lift, pull/push and carry up to 10 pounds with accommodations.
Work Conditions: Position requires that you are able to work remotely efficiently. Exposure to constant or intermittent sounds at a low or moderate level consistent with an office setting. Exposure to high-stress, fast-paced, deadline-oriented environment.
Other: Perform additional duties as assigned for the efficient operation of the department and the organization. This includes the possibility of being assigned temporarily to other locations.
