Description
Under direct supervision, keeps city buildings and grounds clean, orderly and attractive. Operates buffers, vacuums, and similar equipment; empties trash and picks-up trash from areas immediately surrounding the buildings. Cleans and sanitizes restrooms in city buildings and park ground facilities.
Examples of Duties
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
  1. Sweeps, mops and polishes floors.
  2. Vacuums and shampoos carpets.
  3. Removes trash and other refuse from buildings.
  4. Cleans, sanitizes and services restrooms in city buildings and park ground facilities
  5. Dusts equipment, furniture and fixtures.
  6. Washes walls and windows as scheduled.
  7. Sweeps sidewalk and removes trash and other debris from around buildings and dumpster bins.
  8. Waters and dusts indoor plants.
  9. Uses plunger to unstop sinks and toilets.
  10. Delivers supplies to other departments as requested.

OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS:
1. Assists in setting up and cleaning up for special events including setting up tables and chairs, preparing coffee and stocking refreshment table with adequate supplies.
2. Perform related tasks as required.
Qualifications
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
  • Knowledge of various cleaning equipment, tools, and materials.
  • Knowledge of use and standard safety practices in operating equipment and applying cleaning materials.
  • Skill in operating building cleaning equipment including buffer and vacuum.
  • Ability to follow oral/written instructions.
  • Ability to read and understand operation manuals.
  • Skill in communicating for the purpose of obtaining, clarifying, or giving information.
  • Physical ability to perform cleaning tasks including climbing and working from a 6ft. ladder.

Requirements
Ability to follow oral and written directions including safety warnings usually acquired through less than high school education and 3 to 6 months building custodial experience preferred.
