Business Development Director – Aftermarket Services

Are you a technical sales leader who knows how to turn an installed customer base into long-term recurring revenue? Have you built aftermarket service programs, driven growth through upgrades and retrofits, and successfully led teams in industrial, energy, refining, or process manufacturing environments?

A global industrial manufacturing organization headquartered in Western New York is seeking a Business Development Director – Aftermarket Services to build and lead a growing aftermarket business focused on industrial process equipment and engineered systems. This role offers a competitive salary range of $165,000–$210,000, relocation assistance, bonus potential, and the opportunity to build a strategic growth initiative from the ground up.

This is not a maintenance sales role. This leader will be responsible for creating and executing the aftermarket growth strategy for a highly engineered product portfolio, driving revenue through spare parts, upgrades, retrofits, maintenance services, and lifecycle support solutions.

The ideal candidate combines a strong technical foundation with commercial leadership experience and understands how to drive growth in industries such as refining, petrochemical, energy, industrial processing, engineered equipment, rotating equipment, heat transfer systems, vacuum systems, or related industrial markets.

This is an onsite, in-person role in Batavia, NY

Responsibilities

Strategic Business Development

  • Develop and execute a comprehensive aftermarket growth strategy
  • Identify and capture opportunities for retrofits, upgrades, performance improvements, spare parts, and service agreements
  • Analyze market trends, customer maintenance cycles, and competitive activity
  • Develop long-term plans to maximize revenue from the company's installed base
  • Build strategies to improve customer retention and increase lifecycle revenue

Leadership & Team Development

  • Lead and mentor a growing aftermarket business development team
  • Develop future sales and business development leaders through coaching and mentorship
  • Drive accountability, performance, and execution across the commercial organization
  • Collaborate with regional sales teams to support strategic customer opportunities

Commercial & Financial Ownership

  • Own revenue growth, margin performance, forecasting, and pipeline management
  • Develop value-based pricing strategies for aftermarket services and upgrades
  • Establish KPIs and performance metrics tied to growth initiatives
  • Build forecasting models and monitor business performance

Customer & Market Development

  • Develop executive-level relationships with customers and industry stakeholders
  • Partner with operations, engineering, and service teams to develop customer solutions
  • Represent the organization at industry conferences, trade shows, and customer events
  • Identify partnership opportunities with service providers, OEMs, licensors, and industry organizations

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Chemical, Industrial, or related field) required
  • MBA preferred
  • 10+ years of experience in business development, aftermarket sales, industrial sales, or commercial leadership
  • Experience within industrial equipment, process systems, energy, refining, petrochemical, heat transfer, vacuum systems, rotating equipment, or similar industries strongly preferred
  • Proven track record growing aftermarket, service, spare parts, or lifecycle revenue streams
  • Experience leading and developing sales or business development teams
  • Strong technical aptitude and ability to translate engineering concepts into commercial opportunities
  • Excellent communication, leadership, negotiation, and relationship-building skills
  • Experience developing growth strategies and executing within complex industrial markets
