How much do direct client jobs pay per year?

As of Sep 15, 2026, the average yearly pay for direct client in Texas is $36,441.00, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $29,800.00 and $40,500.00 per year, depending on experience, location, and employer.

What is a direct client?

A Direct Client refers to a company or organization that hires talent or services directly, without using intermediaries such as staffing agencies or third-party vendors. In recruitment, working with a direct client means that the recruiter or service provider is dealing directly with the end employer, streamlining communication and the hiring process. This often leads to better clarity about job requirements, quicker feedback, and more transparent business relationships.

How does working with a direct client differ from working through a staffing agency or vendor?

When you work with a direct client, you are employed or contracted directly by the company needing your services, rather than through a third-party agency or vendor. This often results in clearer communication, more direct feedback, and potentially faster decision-making regarding projects or employment status. Additionally, you may have greater visibility into the company's organizational structure and culture, and often benefit from stronger long-term relationships. However, it can also mean greater responsibility for managing contracts, negotiations, and sometimes administrative tasks that a staffing agency might otherwise handle.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a direct client, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Direct Client, you typically need strong project management abilities, business acumen, and a firm understanding of your organization's goals and requirements. Familiarity with procurement systems, contract negotiation tools, and basic CRM software is often beneficial. Excellent communication, decision-making, and relationship-building skills help in coordinating with vendors and internal teams. These competencies ensure clear expectations, effective partnerships, and successful project outcomes.

What is the difference between Direct Client vs Freelance Developer?

A Freelance Developer works independently, usually on short-term projects through platforms or direct agreements, offering more flexibility but less job stability.

Role Overview

We are seeking a Director, Client Development - Data Center (DesignBuild / EPC) to build, secure, and execute largescale capital programs ($100M+), with direct accountability for bookings, commercial strategy, and delivery outcomes. This clientfacing growth leadership role blends strategic client alignment with deep technical expertise to expand multiproject initiatives across hyperscale, colocation, enterprise, and missioncritical data center environments-including critical power, cooling infrastructure, network spaces, and operational support facilities-in both greenfield and brownfield settings.

Operating outside traditional utilization expectations (e.g., billable hours), the role is measured by bookings, marginaware account growth, delivery performance, and longterm client value-empowering you to focus on highimpact client strategy, pursuit leadership, and capital alignment in an entrepreneurial environment. Dedicated preconstruction, engineering, and construction teams support the role, ensuring technical depth and delivery leadership partnership complement your accountability in client development. Success in this role is defined by secured bookings, profitable delivery of multiproject capital programs, and sustained executivelevel client relationships. Programs may span phased campus developments, fasttrack builds, and livesite expansions, requiring disciplined delivery strategies in highly scheduledriven and uptimecritical environments.

What You'll Do
  • Own bookings targets, pricing strategy, and commercial positioning, developing opportunities into secured designbuild (DB) and engineerprocureconstruct (EPC) initiatives supporting data center campuses, critical facilities, power and cooling infrastructure, and network support spaces-leveraging your technical insights to achieve outcomes.

  • Engage client executive stakeholders across Real Estate, Facilities, Engineering, Operations, IT, Network, Finance, and Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) to align capital investment with capacity expansion, resiliency, uptime, sustainability, and speedtomarket objectives.

  • Lead pursuit strategy and executive presentations; negotiate commercial terms, delivery approach, pricing, and risk allocation with direct accountability for contractual outcomes, drawing on technical expertise to build client trust.

  • Lead internal subject matter experts (SMEs) across architecture/engineering (A/E), missioncritical systems, preconstruction, construction, and controls to deliver integrated DB/EPC solutions.

  • Participate in go/nogo reviews, pipeline governance, forecasting, and customer relationship management (CRM) discipline to support predictable growth and backlog health.

  • Serve as executive sponsor through execution and closeout, remaining accountable for client satisfaction, commercial performance, and longterm account profitability.

What You'll Bring
  • 15+ years leading and delivering capital programs for missioncritical or infrastructureintensive clients in a designbuild, EPC, or integrated A/E/C environment-particularly within data centers, technology infrastructure, or other uptimecritical facilities-with personal responsibility for securing work, pricing, and delivery execution.

  • Deep understanding of data center facility systems, including critical power (utility coordination, substations, UPS, generators), cooling systems, redundancy strategies (N, N+1, 2N), controls, phasing, and operational turnover across active and live environments.

  • Experience leading large, multidisciplinary delivery teams with authority over scope, cost, schedule, and margin.

  • This role requires ownership of commercial outcomes and delivery risk within a DB/EPC model, using technical expertise to secure and execute highvalue contracts.

  • Use industry experience and technical knowledge in delivery strategy development and cost/schedule derisking, including preconstruction, constructability, phasing, shutdown/tiein planning, commissioning, and risk management-all to support client pursuits and marginaware growth.

  • Data center sector experience strongly preferred; hyperscale, colocation, enterprise, or missioncritical infrastructure experience applicable.

  • Experience working in highly reliable, uptimecritical environments; familiarity with commissioning, integrated systems testing (IST), and operational readiness required.

  • Executivelevel communication skills with the ability to influence and align technical and nontechnical stakeholders.

  • Willingness to travel for client engagement, site walkdowns, and industry events.

  • BS or MS in Engineering, Architecture, Construction Management, or related field.

  • Professional Engineer (PE) preferred but not required; Master of Business Administration (MBA) and/or Project Management Professional (PMP) a plus.

Our culture and commitment to our people is what sets us apart. We foster an environment of mutual respect, integrity, and unconditional interest in the individual and collective success of our professionals. Our model and entrepreneurial mindset offer a rewarding, challenging, and highly flexible path. As a Director, you will build a meaningful and fulfilling career with the support of professional development resources and mentorships including our First Year Experience program, Individual Development Plans, and Career Path resources and tools. We'd love to connect with you to see if we can take you from where you are today and grow you into a BW Design Group Consultant. #LI-BH1
