Job description

Technical Designer II (Experiential / Built Environment)

At Dimensional Innovations, we create immersive, story-driven environments that push beyond the expected. As a 100% employee-owned company, every team member has a stake in what we build.

Technical Designers at DI work at the intersection of design and fabrication, and we’re looking for a Design Engineer I who’s excited to bring creative ideas to life in the real world.

If you enjoy understanding how things are built, appreciate strong design, and want to work on physical, experiential projects, this could be a great fit.

What You’ll Do

As a Technical Designer II, you’ll support the translation of design concepts into detailed, buildable solutions. You’ll work closely with Designers, Engineers, and Production teams to help bring projects from idea to reality.

You’ll:

  • Create 3D models and detailed drawings using SolidWorks
  • Assist in translating design intent into fabrication-ready documentation
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including Design, Project Management, and Production
  • Learn and apply fabrication methods, materials, and industry standards
  • Support project teams in solving technical challenges during design and production
  • Contribute to maintaining accuracy, quality, and consistency across deliverables
What We’re Really Looking For

This role is ideal for someone early in their career who sits between Industrial Design and Mechanical Engineering.

You might be a great fit if you:

  • Have a foundational understanding of how things are built in the physical world
  • Appreciate design aesthetics, but also enjoy the technical side of making things real
  • Are interested in working on experiential or built environment projects (exhibits, environments, retail, themed experiences, etc.)
  • Want to grow your skills in both design thinking and technical execution
 Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Design, Mechanical Engineering, or related field
  • 3–5 years of relevant experience (internships or project work included)
  • Technically proficient at an advanced level with SolidWorks, including top-down or in-context modeling
  • Technically proficient in Adobe Create Suite, specifically Adobe Illustrator
  • Exposure to fabrication methods (wood, metal, plastics, etc.)
  • Strong attention to detail and willingness to learn
  • Ability to read and interpret drawings (architectural or mechanical is a plus)
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills

Nice to have:

  • Experience with Rhino, Grasshopper, or Adobe Illustrator
  • Interest in experiential design, exhibits, or themed environments
Why DI?

You’ll work on projects that don’t fit neatly into a box—combining storytelling, design, and fabrication to create something truly unique. You’ll also gain hands-on experience learning how great ideas become real, buildable environments.

As an employee-owner, your impact goes beyond your day-to-day work—you’re contributing to the long-term success of the company alongside your teammates.
