Job description

NextGen's practice in Digital Engineering (DE) is growing. As such, we are seeking to hirea Digital Systems Engineer to support our Department of Homeland Security (DHS) customer.
NextGen's DE team builds high-fidelity digital representations of complex systems for commercial and Government customers employing the latest Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) and Modeling, Simulation and Analysis (MS&A) approaches. The selected engineer will collaborate with fellow DE colleagues to solve challenging technical tasks while becoming an expert with and deploying cutting edge modeling and analysis tools. Responsibilities:
  • Serve as end-to-end Project Engineer or Team Lead for advanced surveillance systems
  • Provide technical leadership in planning and organizing project activities
  • Execute and direct system evaluations/characterizations
  • Prepare and document test procedures, limits, and instrumentation
  • Assess technical proposals and coordinate with subject matter experts
  • Organize and prioritize multiple concurrent projects under tight timelines
  • Support development of domain awareness conceptual architectures
  • Develop strategies to consolidate agency requirements and ensure interoperability
  • Evaluate candidate systems where specifications are incomplete or undefined
  • Support integration of inter- and intra-agency requirements into system designs
  • Characterize emerging technologies and provide recommendations
  • Apply MBSE and MS&A approaches to system analysis and architecture design
  • Collaborate closely with stakeholders, customers, and partners to align objectives
  • Develop Key Performance Parameters (KPPs) and document performance baselines
  • Conduct iterative research and perform qualitative/quantitative analysis
  • Analyze data using statistical and coverage tools; interpret results
  • Prepare and deliver classified/unclassified presentations and briefings
  • Deliver findings and recommendations from DE activities
  • Collaborate with DHS S&T, federal agencies, industry, and academia Work within an Agile project management framework

Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, electrical engineering or similar
  • 5+ years employing Digital Engineering techniques including MBSE and/or MS&A
  • Solid understanding of systems lifecycle processes
  • Ability to develop systems engineering artifacts
  • CONOPS, requirement specifications, IDD/ICDs, SDDs, test plans/reports, etc.
  • Experience in Agile project management tools and methods
  • Ability to analyze problems with a flexible and creative approach
  • Ability to manage complex tasks and adapt to rapidly changing requirements
  • Ability to learn new technologies rapidly and implement in a dynamic environment
  • Verbal and written communication skills, attention to detail, and customer-facing skills
  • Ability to obtain a Top-Secret security clearance and DHS BI

Desired Qualifications
  • Domain experience working with radar, communication or EO/IR systems
  • Experience or working knowledge of the RADES (RS4) software suite
  • Experience with SysML and MBSE tools such as Cameo/MagicDraw
  • Experience with GOTS MS&A tools (e.g., AFSIM, NGTS, OneSAF)
  • Experience with COTS MS&A tools (e.g., AGI STK, MATLAB, Phoenix ModelCenter))
  • Experience with Data Science tools (e.g., Jupyter Notebooks, Tableau)
  • Experience with Geographic Information Systems (GIS) data and tools
  • Experience with DoDAF (UDPM and/or UAF)
  • Ability to develop new plugins/scripts for MBSE and MS&A tools/frameworks
  • Current DHS BI Top Secret clearance preferred
