In the role of the Water Business Group Digital Delivery Director, we will count on you to:
Provide Leadership and Vision
  • Define and communicate the WBG digital delivery vision, priorities, and success measures aligned with business group objectives.
  • Oversee the overall strategy of our Digital Delivery guiding Regional Digital Delivery Leads and Area Digital Delivery Leads in support of serving our wastewater, drinking water, water resources, and federal projects.
  • Serve as a strategic advisor to WBG leadership, informing decisions on investment, staffing, and long-term digital delivery direction.
  • Identify systemic challenges across people, process, and communication and guide development of scalable, organizational solutions.
  • Establish and reinforce governance frameworks (e.g., Digital Delivery Plans, standards implementation) to drive consistency and quality across projects.
  • Represent WBG in corporate-level discussions, aligning BG project delivery needs with broader digital initiatives.
  • Coordinate the growth and structure of WBG digital design and delivery career paths at the area, national, and business class levels, in alignment with our strategic plan and annual alignment meeting initiatives. Continue expanding on this vision as regions identify staffing needs and build their digital teams.

Drive Digital Delivery Excellence
  • Provide guidance to project managers and teams on digital delivery approach, staffing alignment, and execution expectations.
  • Support key or complex projects as a strategic advisor, driving alignment with WBG standards and direction.
  • Elevate project-level issues to leadership and work across the organization to provide coordinated solutions.
  • Capture and synthesize lessons learned, adoption challenges, and performance gaps from project execution.
  • Use project feedback to inform strategy, standards, and training priorities, improving overall delivery performance.
  • Champion a culture of consistent, data-driven, and collaborative project delivery across the WBG.
  • Grow the Digital Delivery program to support Virtual Design & Construction (VDC), BIM/CIM, data acquisition, clash detection, 4D construction phasing, 5D cost estimation, and digital asset management across various water infrastructure projects.
  • Work closely with project teams to place specialized digital design and BIM/CIM staff on high-profile or complex water projects.

Coordination and Collaboration
  • Lead business group-wide communication strategies for digital delivery initiatives, priorities, and expectations.
  • Translate complex digital concepts into clear, actionable guidance for WBG leadership, regional leads, and project teams.
  • Drive alignment across:
    • Regional Digital Delivery Leads
    • Discipline and office leadership
    • Corporate and cross-sector initiatives
  • Build and maintain strong relationships across the organization to facilitate consistent messaging and adoption.
  • Lead change management efforts to support the adoption of platforms, workflows, and delivery approaches.
  • Collaborate with the WBG Technology Director to align WBG-wide technology strategies, hardware and software needs, cloud-based services, and vendor feedback that supports digital delivery.
  • Partner with the Applied Technology Office (ATO) and HDR Technology Leadership Team to align WBG priorities with enterprise strategy, standards, and technology direction.
  • Coordinate directly with Program Delivery Service teams including Project Controls, Geospatial Information Management, and Visualization and Interactive Design teams to fully integrate digital delivery solutions into our project workflows.
  • Maintain regular contact with BIM/CIM and digital design software vendor partners to manage HDR initiatives, coordinate software updates or enhancements, and advocate for project needs.

Standards, Best Practices and Training
  • Lead the development and maintenance of BIM/CIM and digital delivery guidelines, standards, best practices, and templates that support efficient project execution and quality assurance.
  • Oversee the sourcing, creation, and delivery of BIM/CIM and digital delivery-related training, including the use of Autodesk-based and Bentley-based design platforms.
  • Demonstrate an in-depth working knowledge of common data environments such as ProjectWise and Autodesk Construction Cloud.

Strategic Growth and Innovation
  • Identify, sponsor, and advocate for new and innovative software solutions, workflows, and use cases that expand and improve our ability to deliver model-based water design and construction projects.
  • Lead the preparation of digital design and BIM/CIM scope and fee proposals on significant pursuits, in close coordination with marketing teams and technical leaders.
  • Leverage industry recognition, publications, and conference engagements to enhance HDR's reputation as a leader in digital design and delivery.

Team Building and Mentorship
  • Collaborate with WBG Digital Delivery Enterprise Services, providing mentorship, training, and alignment with project delivery teams to promote consistent delivery and implementation of digital practices.
  • Foster a collaborative, inclusive culture that attracts and retains top digital delivery talent and encourages continuous learning, innovation, and high-performing teams.
  • Maintain strong relationships with project managers, operations leaders, and human resources to support digital delivery staff and teams.
  • Provide ongoing staff development and recognition for cross-sector team, driving retention and attraction of top talent while ensuring alignment with HDR's core values and strategic objectives.
  • Be a champion and advocate for cross-sector staff by promoting collaboration, professional growth, and cohesive digital delivery practices across all WBG disciplines.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Information Technology, Business, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with 4D construction phasing, 5D Cost estimating, data acquisition, digital twins, and digital asset management platforms and capabilities.
  • Familiarity with frameworks such as ISO-19650 for information management, specifically as they apply to infrastructure projects.
  • Experience leading digital transformation programs, including adoption of new software, establishing training curricula, or pioneering proprietary tools.
  • Recognition within the industry for delivering large-scale programs and innovative vendor coordination, supported by published articles, conference presentations, or related activities.
