Applications Specialist - Digital Printing


Position Summary


The Application Specialist serves as the technical bridge between sales, engineering, service, and customers. This role is responsible for demonstrating equipment capabilities, developing customer applications, conducting training, troubleshooting print processes, and ensuring customers achieve successful production outcomes.

The ideal candidate combines strong technical aptitude with excellent communication skills and a passion for helping customers solve manufacturing and decorating challenges through digital printing technology.


Essential Responsibilities


Customer Application Development

  • Evaluate customer products, substrates, and production requirements.
  • Develop and validate print processes for new applications.
  • Conduct adhesion, durability, and print quality testing.
  • Recommend pretreatment, ink, fixture, and workflow solutions.
  • Create sample prints to support sales opportunities.
  • Document successful application parameters and best practices.


Demonstrations and Sales Support

  • Conduct equipment demonstrations for prospective customers.
  • Present technical solutions that address customer manufacturing challenges.
  • Assist sales personnel with application recommendations and technical discussions.
  • Support trade shows, open houses, and customer events.
  • Produce demonstration samples and marketing application examples.


Customer Training

  • Deliver operator, maintenance, and application training.
  • Develop training materials, videos, and standard operating procedures.
  • Train customers on printer operation, color management, workflow, and maintenance.
  • Support customer ramp-up and production implementation.


Technical Support

  • Troubleshoot print quality, adhesion, color, and workflow issues.
  • Assist field service personnel with application-related challenges.
  • Identify root causes and implement corrective actions.
  • Document and communicate recurring issues and recommended solutions.
  • Provide feedback to engineering and product development teams.


Process Improvement

  • Develop and maintain application standards and testing procedures.
  • Create knowledge base articles and technical documentation.
  • Evaluate new inks, coatings, substrates, and technologies.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives that improve customer success and product performance.


Qualifications


Required

  • 3+ years of experience in digital printing, industrial printing, decorating, manufacturing, or related technical fields.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience working directly with customers.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to travel up to 50%.


Preferred

  • Experience with UV inkjet printing.
  • Knowledge of color management, RIP software, and graphic workflows.
  • Experience with industrial manufacturing environments.
  • Understanding of adhesion testing, coatings, pretreatments, and substrates.
  • Experience delivering technical training and presentations.
