Job description

The Digital Printing Manager is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of our make-to-order digital print environment at our Louisville manufacturing facility. This role plays a key part in ensuring timely, high-quality custom production, driving continuous improvement, and solutions driven communication.ย 

The ideal candidate is a hands-on leader with a passion for engaging teams, optimizing performance, and delivering products that meet and exceed customer expectations. This position collaborates closely with our graphic design, customer experience, product development, and sales teams to support business objectives.ย 

This is a full-time, on-site position based at our Louisville, KY manufacturing facility and reports to the President of Operations.

Key Responsibilities:ย 

Leadership & Operations Managementย 

  • Lead, coach, and develop a high-performing production team with a focus on flexibility and cross-training.
  • Manage daily production workflow to ensure adherence to schedules and quality standards.
  • Champion continuous improvement initiatives across print operations, finishing, and scheduling.
  • Participate in hiring, training, performance management, and safety programs.
  • Lead weekly digital production meetings and contribute to staff updates.ย 

Production & Technical Oversightย 

  • Operate and maintain digital print technologies including roll-to-roll and flatbed UV printing on vinyl, textiles, and rigid substrates.
  • Oversee CNC cutting, coating, and finishing processes.
  • Analyze and resolve downtime issues; coordinate with OEMs and vendors for troubleshooting and preventive maintenance.
  • Order and manage inventory for substrates, inks, and other consumables.
  • Maintain equipment cleanliness, functionality, and overall production readiness.ย 

Workflow & Communicationย 

  • Utilize ERP systems to manage job flow, production tracking, and scheduling.
  • Collaborate with internal design and sales teams to ensure digital files are production-ready and optimized for installation.
  • Communicate lead times, schedule updates, and quality expectations to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Support customers and sales with technical insights on color matching, file prep, and installation methods.ย 

Planning & Reportingย 

ย 
  • Monitor daily schedule attainment and take corrective actions on variances.
  • Prepare operational forecasts and performance reports for senior leadership.
  • Estimate timeframes and resource requirements for new and existing production initiatives.
  • Ensure compliance with safety protocols; lead weekly safety meetings and incident investigations.ย 

Skills & Qualificationsย 

  • Associateโ€™s or Bachelorโ€™s degree in Printing, Graphic Design, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • 3โ€“5 years of supervisory experience in digital print manufacturing; wallcoverings, textiles, or surface solutions experience is a preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of UV digital printing technologies, substrates, and finishing processes.
  • Familiarity with ERP systems (Infor preferred); AS400 and Microsoft Office skills required.
  • Experience with graphic design file formats and limitations relevant to print production.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work on the manufacturing floor, occasionally lift up to 50 pounds, and adapt to noise and temperature variations.
  • Willingness to travel occasionally to customer sites or equipment vendors.
  • Ability to stand, walk, and move around the manufacturing floor for extended periods.
  • Occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Exposure to manufacturing environments, including noise and temperature variations.
