Job description

Description

Overview

We are looking for a creative, detail-driven Instructional Designer to join our Learning + Development team. This is a newly created role reporting directly to the Director of Learning + Development - and a great opportunity for someone who enjoys building, with real ownership and room to grow alongside a scaling brand.

You'll support the design, development, and delivery of training tools and resources for restaurant teams, including new hire onboarding, operational training guides, leadership development, and new restaurant opening materials. The ideal candidate understands restaurant operations, has experience building adult learning content, and thrives in a fast-paced environment where clarity, consistency, and hospitality matter. Bilingual candidates (English/Spanish) are strongly encouraged to apply. Travel is expected on an as-needed basis (less than 20%) for new restaurant openings and field observations.

Responsibilities

LMS Selection & Implementation

  • Lead the evaluation, selection, and rollout of a Learning Management System (LMS) for the company
  • Define requirements based on operational needs, team size, and content formats
  • Manage vendor relationships, timelines, and internal stakeholder alignment during implementation
  • Build and maintain the LMS content library, user structure, and reporting framework

Instructional Design & Content Creation

  • Design and develop training materials such as playbooks, one-pagers, facilitator guides, job aids, SOPs, checklists, visuals, and workflows
  • Translate complex operational processes into simple, practical, easy-to-use learning tools
  • Create engaging training content for multiple formats: written, visual, digital, mobile, and in-restaurant assets
  • Build and refine tools that support new restaurant openings, menu training, food safety, guest service, management skills, and standard operating procedures

Learning Experience Design

  • Write concise, learner-focused content that supports frontline team members with varying levels of experience and language ability
  • Support the creation of training modules for self-paced digital learning, classroom facilitation, and hands-on kitchen training
  • Collaborate with kitchen leaders, trainers, and operations to ensure accuracy, brand consistency, and operational alignment

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Partner with operations, culinary, HR, and training stakeholders to gather subject matter expertise and validate content
  • Work closely with restaurant teams to observe training needs, capture pain points, and test instructional tools
  • Support ongoing updates and continuous improvement of training materials based on feedback and field performance

Project Management

  • Manage multiple projects simultaneously with clear timelines, version control, and stakeholder updates
  • Maintain organized asset libraries for training materials, templates, and visual standards
  • Ensure brand consistency, formatting standards, and version updates across all resources

Requirements

Qualifications

Required

  • 2-4+ years of instructional design, training design, or L&D experience (restaurant or hospitality experience strongly preferred)
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish
  • Video production or editing experience
  • Demonstrated ability to simplify complex processes into easy-to-use training tools
  • Strong writing, editing, and content organization skills
  • Experience with adult learning theory and instructional design methodologies
  • Experience evaluating or implementing an LMS platform, or strong working knowledge of LMS systems
  • Comfortable using design software (e.g., Canva, Google Suite, PowerPoint, LMS authoring tools such as Articulate Rise or Storyline)
  • Ability to collaborate effectively across teams and levels
  • Comfortable with occasional travel (up to 15%) for field work and new restaurant openings

Who You Are

  • Hospitality-minded, empathetic, and learner-focused
  • Excited by the challenge of building something new - you don't need a playbook, you write one
  • Obsessed with clarity, simplicity, and usability
  • Organized and detail-oriented with excellent follow-through
  • Comfortable receiving and incorporating feedback quickly
  • Curious, resourceful, and always thinking about how to improve training experiences
  • Able to think "restaurant-first" - understanding that tools must work in an actual kitchen, not just in a document

Benefits

  • Competitive salary (range to be posted in compliance with applicable pay transparency laws)
  • Health, dental, and vision benefits
  • Paid time off
  • Meal perks
  • Growth and development opportunities within a scaling restaurant brand
  • The rare chance to build an L&D function from the ground up
