In this role, you'll act as a catalyst for innovation by bridging the gap between the Division of Information Technology and the campus community, turning complex tech initiatives into clear, engaging stories and helpful guides. You will spend your days in a collaborative environment leading a talented team of undergraduates, coaching them through real-world projects and helping them launch their creative careers. From managing campus-wide outreach to serving as the lead on AI content integrity, you will ensure our technology is accessible, reliable, and forward-thinking for everyone at Ball State. If you are a creative problem-solver passionate about student success and staying at the cutting edge of digital communication, we want to meet you!
Candidates for searches must have current authorization to be employed in the U.S. without employer sponsorship.
This role requires an on-campus presence; it is not a remote position.

Position Function

The Digital Content Strategist in Digital Corps will support the messaging and technical documentation needs of the Division of Information Technology while supported by - and providing guidance to - a team of students within the Digital Corps. By utilizing a wide variety of delivery tools, and by leveraging a talented team of students, the Digital Content Strategist aims to create clear, concise, informative, and meaningful content strategies on behalf of Information Technology and for the clients of the Digital Corps.

Duties & Responsibilities

1. Lead the strategic vision for and implement the Division of Information Technology's comprehensive outreach strategy, overseeing creation, deployment, and management of messaging across campus-wide platforms.

2. Serve as the institutional lead for content integrity and governance concerning campus-wide AI tools and platforms, including generative AI services, by curating and validating source materials from campus collaborators to ensure accuracy and consistency in all AI-generated content.

3. Lead a team of undergraduate content creation students focused on communication projects at the Digital Corps, including hiring new employees, creating an onboarding training program, assigning and reviewing work, evaluating students for promotion, and other day-to-day management tasks.

4. Collaborate with Digital Corps students to support the client-focused communication projects undertaken by the Digital Corps.

5. Work with Unified Technology Support to create and maintain campus-wide support documents ("Knowledgebase") for key Information Technology initiatives.

6. Lead collaborative efforts within the Division of Information Technology to research and apply forward-thinking outreach trends and strategies. Share these insights with both IT and the Digital Corps to ensure we evaluate new tools and techniques and maintain the Digital Corps' mission to remain at the forefront of technology.

7. Provide strategic direction for the launch of new IT systems, collaborating to develop all initial training content and essential documentation to ensure clear and effective information is available to users immediately upon system deployment.

8. Foster and promote a culture of content excellence and customer-centric knowledge sharing across the Division of Information Technology, establishing standard processes and providing regular consultation and training to support content creation.

9. Perform other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in English, creative writing, technical writing, communication, or a related technical field from an accredited college or university by date of appointment. Or, in lieu of a Bachelor's degree:

  • Associate's degree plus an additional combination of education or experience in communication equivalent to two years. Or, in lieu of an Associate's degree:

  • High school diploma or GED plus an additional combination of education or experience in communication equivalent to four years.

  • At least two years of communications experience.

  • A successful candidate will have excellent writing and editing skills and the patience to lead, train, and coach undergraduate students in the field of communication strategy. In addition, crucial soft skills - like time management, collaboration, and creativity - are highly valued. Must be able to use a word processing program.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in communication and presentation skills; ability to quickly adapt and become familiar with university processes and procedures, and quickly establish rapport and confidence among multiple university units and levels of the organization.
