Job description

General Description:

The Project Manager / Estimator's primary responsibilities includes estimating and managing

construction projects. Additional responsibilities include client interface and ensuring client

satisfaction; developing detailed means and methods estimates; outsourcing, analyzing and

competitively purchasing subcontractor services and material purchases; reviewing proposed

designs for constructability, value-engineering, contract negotiations; creating, updating and

enforcing project schedules; problem solving; coordinating project meetings; keeping project

records and documents; managing project cost; managing change orders, acquiring building

permits, managing submittals and other necessary project documents and physically inspecting

projects to monitor progress and compliance with project standards.

To be successful in this position the candidate should have knowledge and experience

estimating industrial civil construction.

Essential Functions:

โ€ข Meet with Client / Customer on a regular basis to discuss status of projects, determine

client satisfaction and take immediate action to respond to problems and concerns.

โ€ข Visit project work sites, clarify scope of work, and prepare cost estimates and proposals.

โ€ข Evaluate projects for constructability and value-engineer cost savings.

โ€ข Develop and implement strategies to self-perform and to outsource the various aspects

of a project to achieve the projects objectives of price, schedule and quality.

โ€ข Negotiate contracts, subcontracts and purchase orders to assure that all project goals

are being addressed.

โ€ข Identify issues that could lead to problems and facilitate their solutions.

โ€ข Conduct and document project progress meetings.

โ€ข Determine and implement the appropriate level of project control (i.e.: submittal logs,

change order logs, etc.)

โ€ข Manage project costs to assure that budgets are maintained.

โ€ข Document and manage changes in the work.

โ€ข Document substantial completion; manage the project closeout process to assure timely

completion

โ€ข Participate in weekly staff meetings.

โ€ข Duties may include assistance to Project Superintendent

Physical Demands:

Office Environment โ€“ Employee is regularly required to sit; use of hands to grip, handle, or feel;

reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to stand and

walk and must be able to lift and/or move objects up to 25 lbs. This position may also require

field visits to Construction Site, predominately outdoors. Exposure to extreme hot or cold

outside temperatures is possible.

Position Type/Expected Work Hours:

This is a full-time, hourly position. Days and hours of work vary from each jobsite. Occasional

evening/weekend work or travel may be required as job duties demand. The environment for

this job varies โ€“ 90% of the job will be in a typical, professional office environment. 10% of the

role consists of visiting jobsites to gain better scope of bid requirements.

Required Education and Experience:

โ€ข 7+ years of field experience and/or Degree in Construction Management/Engineering

โ€ข Experience estimating and managing self-performed work activities and subcontracted

work.

โ€ข Proficient with computer software used in the construction industry.

โ€ข Understands project cost control and change order management

โ€ข Understands software applications associated with managing and controlling work-flow.

Industry Related Requirements:

โ€ข Must hold a valid TWIC Card

โ€ข Must hold a valid OSHA Basic Plus

โ€ข Must be able to pass all Safety Council related courses

โ€ข Must undergo Pre-Employment Screening (physical, drug & alcohol screen, audiogram,

fit test if applicable)

โ€ข Must hold a valid Driverโ€™s License to operate company equipment and/or vehicles
