Developmental Client Coach information

What is a developmental client coach?

A Developmental Client Coach is a professional who works with clients to support their personal or professional growth and development. They use coaching techniques to help individuals identify goals, overcome obstacles, and develop action plans for improvement. Developmental Client Coaches often focus on skills such as communication, leadership, and self-awareness, and may work in various settings, including corporate, educational, or private practice. Their main goal is to empower clients to achieve their potential and foster lasting positive change.

How does a developmental client coach typically collaborate with clients and other team members to support client growth?

As a Developmental Client Coach, collaboration is central to your role. You will regularly engage with clients to set goals, monitor progress, and adjust strategies to foster their personal or professional development. Additionally, you often work closely with other coaches, therapists, or case managers to ensure a coordinated approach tailored to each client's needs. Effective communication and regular team meetings are key to delivering consistent support and optimizing client outcomes.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a developmental client coach, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Developmental Client Coach, you need a background in psychology, social work, or education, often accompanied by relevant certifications or degrees. Familiarity with case management software, developmental assessment tools, and behavior intervention systems is typically required. Outstanding soft skills include empathy, active listening, and adaptability to effectively support and motivate clients. These skills ensure personalized guidance, progress tracking, and positive outcomes for individuals with developmental needs.

Certified Exercise CoachBuild Strength. Develop Relationships. Grow as a Professional.
At The Exercise Coach®, we believe staying strong and healthy shouldn’t feel like a hassle. Our technology-driven approach helps clients of all ages achieve meaningful results through personalized, efficient strength-training sessions.
We’re looking for a dependable, curious, and adaptable professional who wants to become an exceptional coach while developing an understanding of the business behind a successful boutique fitness studio.
Extensive personal-training experience is not required. We can teach you our methodology, technology, and business systems. What you must bring is integrity, personal responsibility, genuine care for people, and a willingness to learn and be coached.
The Opportunity
As a Certified Exercise Coach, you will provide one-on-one and small-group strength-training instruction to clients with different goals, abilities, and physical limitations.
This is not a conventional personal-training position. Our coaches use proprietary technology and a defined methodology to deliver safe, efficient, and highly personalized workouts while creating an exceptional client experience.
For someone with the right aptitude and initiative, this role also offers opportunities to develop skills in client consultations, relationship-based sales, retention, studio operations, and business performance.
What You’ll Do:
  • Lead engaging one-on-one and small-group exercise sessions tailored to each client
  • Conduct consultations, assessments, and ongoing progress evaluations
  • Educate, encourage, and build trusted relationships with clients
  • Help prospective clients select appropriate memberships and training options
  • Contribute to client retention, referrals, and studio growth
  • Support daily studio operations while maintaining a welcoming, professional environment
Who We’re Looking For
You may be a strong fit if you are:
  • Coachable: You receive feedback professionally, apply what you learn, and continually work to improve.
  • Curious: You ask thoughtful questions and want to understand why our methodology works.
  • Responsible: You are dependable, punctual, prepared, and accountable.
  • Adaptable: You adjust effectively to different clients, priorities, and circumstances.
  • High in integrity: You communicate honestly, exercise sound judgment, and follow through on your commitments.
  • People-oriented: You enjoy encouraging others and can bring positive, professional energy to every interaction.
  • Interested in business: You want to learn how coaching, client relationships, retention, sales, and studio operations work together.
Experience and Education
Personal-training experience is helpful but not required. Experience in fitness, client service, hospitality, education, healthcare, or consultative sales may also be valuable.
A degree in exercise science, kinesiology, health, or a related field is preferred but not required.
Candidates should have:
  • A genuine interest in health, strength, and fitness
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • An interest in learning exercise science and human physiology
  • Comfort communicating with clients in person and by phone
  • The ability to work effectively with older adults and clients with varying physical abilities
  • The willingness and physical ability to participate in our exercise and nutrition methodology
Training and Certification
Successful candidates will receive training in The Exercise Coach methods and technology and must complete:
  • The Exercise Coach Certification Course
  • CPR/AED certification through a nationally recognized provider
Candidates must also be legally eligible to work in the United States.
Team Benefits
  • Access to state-of-the-art fitness technology
  • Company-paid training and required certifications
  • Pay for all scheduled hours—not only time spent conducting sessions
  • A complimentary membership for one immediate family member
  • Ongoing professional development
  • Opportunities to develop coaching, business, and leadership skills
Eligible full-time employees may also receive paid vacation, paid holidays, and employer contributions toward health-insurance coverage.
Join Our Team
If you are responsible, curious, coachable, adaptable, and committed to treating people with integrity, we would like to meet you.
This is an opportunity to help people become stronger while developing valuable skills in coaching, client relationships, and business operations. If that sounds like the work—and professional growth—you’re looking for, we encourage you to apply.
