Histology Laboratory Supervisor

Location: Scottsdale, Arizona
Schedule: Monday โ€“ Friday | 6:00 AM โ€“ 2:30 PM
Employment Type: Full-Time, Benefit Eligible

Position Summary

We are seeking an experienced Histology Laboratory Supervisor to join our pathology laboratory team in Scottsdale, Arizona. Reporting directly to the Laboratory Manager, the Laboratory Supervisor plays a key leadership role in overseeing daily laboratory operations, ensuring regulatory compliance, maintaining quality standards, and supporting the professional development of laboratory staff.

This position combines hands-on technical expertise with supervisory responsibilities and serves as a critical resource for troubleshooting, training, quality assurance, and laboratory safety initiatives.

Key Responsibilities
  • Supervise the day-to-day activities of assigned laboratory personnel.
  • Assist with hiring, onboarding, training, coaching, scheduling, and performance evaluations.
  • Perform a full range of routine and specialized histology and pathology laboratory procedures.
  • Train laboratory staff on equipment operation, laboratory procedures, and best practices.
  • Serve as a technical resource for troubleshooting equipment, procedural issues, and workflow challenges.
  • Assist in the implementation and maintenance of laboratory safety and quality assurance programs.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable CLIA, CAP, federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Maintain laboratory proficiency and training requirements.
  • Support staff development through ongoing education and competency assessments.
  • Assist the Laboratory Manager with maintaining CLIA documentation, records, quality logs, and tracking documents.
  • Verify completion of required daily laboratory records and documentation.
  • Help prepare the laboratory for CAP and CLIA inspections and audits.
  • Utilize sound judgment and problem-solving skills to resolve operational and technical issues.
Qualifications Required
  • Associate degree in Histology, Biology, Chemistry, or a related scientific field.
  • Education must satisfy CLIA requirements for grossing surgical specimens, including a combined minimum of 24 semester hours in Biology and Chemistry.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of histology laboratory experience.
  • Current HT or HTL (ASCP) certification.
  • Strong knowledge of laboratory operations, quality assurance practices, and regulatory requirements.
Preferred
  • Bachelor's degree in Histology, Biology, Chemistry, or a related field.
  • Previous leadership, supervisory, or team lead experience in a histology or pathology laboratory.

Additional education and/or experience may be considered in lieu of certification where permitted by applicable regulations.
