Job description

BRIEF JOB SUMMARY
The Developmental Therapist is a member of an interdisciplinary team, providing services to children ranging in age from birth until their third birthday. The Therapist is responsible for:
  • Participation in individualized family service plan development
  • Meeting with children and their families in their homes in several counties across the central Illinois region
  • Scheduling, evaluating, and screening children in addition to communicating/reporting to the service coordinator.
  • Maintaining records of the child's curriculum progress, interactions with family and/or guardians, and other professional services rendered
  • Working with the service coordinator to link families to community resources, parent liaisons, and/or other providers
  • Helping the families obtain specialized equipment and/or therapeutic devices for the child
  • Assisting with the planning, set-up, and implementation of periodic playgroups
  • Agency-owned vehicles are provided for work-related travel in addition to a laptop and cell phone for work-related uses.

BASIC REQUIREMENTS
  • Possess a valid driver's license with the ability to drive in the daytime or at night
  • Provide proof of the required degree via transcripts from an accredited school
  • Must pass a criminal background check, as required by the Healthcare Worker Background Check Act (225 ILCS 46), and a DCFS Child Abuse and Neglect background check
  • Successfully complete and maintain American Heart Association or American Red Cross CPR/First Aid certification

ACADEMIC/TRAINING REQUIREMENTS
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Early Childhood Education, Early Childhood Special Education, Special Education, Child Development, Early Intervention, or Elementary Education.
  • 240 hours of direct service to children from birth to three years old under the supervision of an Illinois credentialed Developmental Therapist (the agency can work with the right applicant to obtain this)
  • Completion of the Illinois Early Intervention Systems Training
  • Able to submit proof of training on the use of a formal assessment tool that would allow the provider to perform global evaluations and assessments with children under the age of three

Two semester hours or 30 clock hours/CEU credit hours in each of the core areas:
  • Working with Families of Young Children with Disabilities
  • Assessment of Children with Special Needs
  • Intervention Strategies for Young Children with Special Needs
  • Typical and Atypical Child Development (at least 1 semester hour or 15 contact hours in each area)

*Note that "Young Children" is defined as children from birth to three years old. The documentation submitted must specify this age range.*
SCHEDULE
  • Full-time
  • Daytime on Monday through Friday with major holidays and weekends off

WAGES
$49,000/ year
PAY SCHEDULE
  • Every two weeks with direct deposit available upon request
