The Surest Benefit Analytics team is seeking a Senior Data Analyst to play a key role in advancing the organization's analytics capabilities and scalability. This position is ideal for a highly experienced analytics professional with exceptional data fluency, strong technical expertise, and a demonstrated ability to query and synthesize large, complex healthcare datasets (primarily claims data) to solve meaningful business challenges. The role will focus on developing and delivering analytics through business intelligence tools powered by cloud-based data, supporting teams across Surest with actionable, high-quality insights. The successful candidate will bring deep experience working with data and will excel at partnering with stakeholders to translate business needs into thoughtful analytical approaches and effective solutions. You'll enjoy the flexibility to work remotely * from anywhere within the U.S. as you take on some tough challenges. For all hires in the Minneapolis or Washington, D.C. area, you will be required to work in the office a minimum of four days per week.
Primary Responsibilities:
  • Lead the end-to-end development and governance of BI solutions, including Power BI dashboards, Looker reports, and automated Excel tools that accelerate speed to data
  • Drive initiatives to improve data quality, reliability, and standardization across analytic processes and platforms
  • Set the strategy for automation and novel analytics, reducing manual work and scaling repeatable, self service data solutions
  • Oversee integration of diverse data sources-claims, provider, operational-into unified, high quality analytic datasets. Ensuring consistency and alignment across internal analytic outputs, including coordination with UHC/Optum reporting where applicable
  • Partner with data science, engineering, and architecture teams to ensure BI capabilities remain performant and align with broader enterprise data strategy
  • Communicate insights clearly and with executive presence, tailoring messages to both technical and non technical audiences
  • Support preparation and delivery of health analytic deliverables, including regular and ad-hoc consultative/analytic support as defined by the internal and external stakeholders

Required Qualifications:
  • 7+ years of highly ADVANCED SQL experience, including expert-level ability to write highly optimized, complex queries; extensive hands on skill with multi table joins (inner/outer), nested subqueries, in line views, window functions, and sophisticated Common Table Expressions (CTEs); and a proven experience interrogating, transforming, and reviewing large-scale healthcare datasets with precision
  • 7+ years of experience designing and developing data visualizations and dashboards, leveraging tools such as Looker, Power BI, Tableau, and other modern visualization frameworks to translate complex analytical outputs into intuitive, actionable insights
  • 7+ years of experience translating business requirements into deployed analyses
  • 3+ years of experience with healthcare claims (medical or pharmacy) and analyzing these claims to tell a story (e.g. ER Utilization compared to UC Utilization, PMPM trend, etc.)
  • 3+ years of experience leading and mentoring junior data analysts and analytics engineers, providing guidance on technical development, analytical best practices, and project execution
  • Extensive experience in data governance and best practices
  • Demonstrated record of high impact cross functional collaboration, with excellent communication skills enabling effective partnership with stakeholders at all organizational levels and across a wide range of technical expertise

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Advanced proficiency with Looker (LookML and derived tables)
  • Experience with Databricks or Snowflake

Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, we offer benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements). The salary for this role will range from $91,700 to $163,700 annually based on full-time employment. We comply with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
