What is the difference between Developer Relations Manager vs Developer Advocate?
| Aspect | Developer Relations Manager | Developer Advocate |
|---|---|---|
| Primary Focus | Oversees developer community engagement, strategy, and relationship management | Creates technical content, demos, and direct developer support to promote products |
| Required Skills | Community management, strategic planning, communication | Technical expertise, coding skills, presentation abilities |
| Work Environment | Collaborates with marketing, product teams, and community | Hands-on technical work, content creation, public speaking |
| Common Usage | In organizations with large developer communities or ecosystems | In roles focused on technical evangelism and direct developer engagement |

Qualifications:
Required:
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree or equivalent experience in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent practical experience).
• A minimum of 12+ years of overall professional experience in the technology industry in software engineering, developer relations, technical partnerships, including 5+ years of direct hands-on experience in your designated ecosystem (e.g., Telco, MarTech, etc.).
• Validated experience leading, partnering, and rapidly growing developer programs at major technology companies, GSIs, or within relevant verticals, concentrating on next-generation generative AI and physical AI solutions.
• Significant technical proficiency in high-performance computing, cloud, AI/ML, and/or vertical-specific frameworks and libraries.
• Excellent social skills with the ability to distill sophisticated technical concepts for diverse technical and non-technical audiences, from engineers to executives.
• Experience leading technical partnerships with engineering and product teams - including architectural design, code reviews, technical mentorship, and delivery of technical talks or workshops.
• Shown ability to structure and implement sophisticated technical engagements, negotiate requirements, prioritize issues, and collaborate with internal or external partners (across sales, legal, product, or marketing teams as needed).
