Overview / Responsibilities

Wood is currently seeking an Project Engineering Manager to join our Mining & Minerals team in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan.  The Office Engineering Manager will apply extensive and comprehensive knowledge of engineering principles and practices to the organization's products and services. The Project Engineering Manager will plan, schedule and assign/supervise or conduct broad and/or technically complex engineering assignments requiring judgment, independent evaluation, selection and significant adaptation and deviation from standard techniques and procedures. 

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage team of Engineers and Designers on specific project(s); planning and coordinating the engineering activities on projects or serve as an individual expert, completing broadly defined and/or technically complex engineering assignments
  • Provide leadership to the Engineering team through supervision, mentoring, training and motivation
  • Interface between Engineering and the other disciplines on the project including Project Controls, Project Management, Procurement, Contracts, Construction, suppliers and the client team
  • Maintains a close working relationship with the Client Engineering Manager to ensure direct, rapid and efficient communications on all technical aspects of the project.
  • Prepare and manage the engineering module of the Project Management Plan (PMP) and Procedures, Instructions and Forms (PIFs) and assist the Project Director in the timely preparation, approval and effective implementation of overall project-specific PMP and PIFs,
  • Serve as engineering representative with client, constructor, subcontractors, and suppliers at kick-off and project review meetings.
  • Work with the project team for the project setup and develop the project baseline plan to meet the contracted scope, schedule and budget
  • Monitor and ensure the technical progress and productivity of the engineering work on the project is completed on schedule and meets quality standards within baseline man-hour and budgets and develop corrective action plans to control work within budget and schedule.
  • Work with Discipline Leads to ensure that staffing levels are appropriate to achieve the engineering schedule commitments and personnel are assigned with appropriate ability
  • Ensure the technical quality of work performed is based upon organizational standards, codes and general knowledge of engineering principles and projects
  • Identify and secure necessary approvals for all changes in project scope, budget and schedule in a timely manner.
  • Supervise and/or prepare proposals, contract design drawings and calculations, contract information, specifications and other engineering documentation.
  • Give presentations to customers, suppliers and internally within the organization
  • Serve as a technical expert, as appropriate
  • Investigate client and/or project management grievances at assigned projects to determine facts and recommend a solution
  • Quality Assurance - Ensure that the quality audits of engineering work are carried out in accordance with the Project Procedures and the quality assurance plan.
  • Establish and maintain a climate favourable to the application of ethical and professional practices in the execution of the engineering work.
  • Drive the company health, safety and environment programs at the project level, driving a safety-oriented approach to work
Skills / Qualifications
  • Diploma in Engineering or Diploma in Engineering Technology
  • Minimum of 8-12 years of progressive, engineering consulting project experience and demonstrated experience as an Engineering Manager in the mining industry
  • Excellent communications skills
  • Must be willing to relocate to the Saskatoon area, if required
  • Authorization to lawfully work in Canada without sponsorship from Wood is required
