What is a trainee developer?
What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a trainee developer, and why are they important?
What are some common challenges faced by trainee developers during their initial months on the job?
What is the difference between Trainee Developer vs Junior Developer?
| Aspect | Trainee Developer | Junior Developer |
|---|---|---|
| Required Credentials | Basic coding skills, often in learning phase | Some experience or training, basic coding knowledge |
| Work Environment | Training programs, supervised tasks | Real projects, team collaboration |
| Employer Usage | Entry-level, training roles | Entry-level to early career positions |
In summary, a Trainee Developer is typically in a learning phase, focusing on gaining skills under supervision, while a Junior Developer has some practical experience and works on real projects with more independence.

Job description
Primary Purpose: We are seeking a highly motivated Postdoctoral Fellow to join a multidisciplinary research program focused on developing a novel ultrasound molecular imaging contrast agent for the detection and characterization of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). The successful candidate will work at the interface of molecular biology, ultrasound imaging, and preclinical model development, contributing to an innovative project with strong translational potential.
Nature of Work: The successful candidate will work under the supervision of Dr. Steven Machtaler. This work will require working with animal models of inflammatory bowel disease in order to develop and validate an ultrasound contrast agent that can detect active inflammation.
Accountabilities:
- Develop and validate a targeted ultrasound molecular imaging contrast agent for inflammatory bowel disease
- Design, synthesize, and characterize nucleic acid-based targeting agents
- Perform in vitro binding assays, functional validation studies, and contrast-agent optimization
- Lead experimental work in small animal IBD models and contribute to large animal studies
- Conduct ultrasound imaging using both research-grade and clinical systems
- Analyze imaging data and assist in protocol development
- Prepare manuscripts and contribute to grant proposals
- Present research at conferences and mentor trainees
Education:
- PhD in Biomedical Engineering, Molecular Biology, Medical Imaging, Physiology, Biochemistry, or a related field.
Experience:
- Experience with animal models of disease
- Strong publication record
- Strong communication skills
Skills:
- Experience with contrast agent development or targeted imaging probes
- Experience with animal models
- Familiarity with quantitative ultrasound or image analysis
- Skills in data analysis
