About Recovery Works NW:

We have changed thousands of lives through our outpatient clinics over the last nine years and now we are feeling we need to do more. Please join Recovery Works NW as we open our medically-managed withdrawal facility (aka detox) in Southeast Portland. We are a no-judgment, harm-reduction, down-to-earth organization specializing in addiction treatment and we are growing rapidly in hopes to make an even bigger difference within our community. Job Summary:

The Detox Nurse plays a crucial role in providing comprehensive nursing care to individuals undergoing detoxification from drugs or alcohol. They are responsible for assessing patients, developing and implementing detoxification and treatment plans, administering medications, and monitoring patient progress throughout the detoxification process. The Detox Nurse collaborates with a multidisciplinary team to ensure the safety and well-being of patients and assists in their transition to further treatment or ongoing care.


Compensation:

  • $42-$55 /hr depending on certifications and qualifications

PLUS Differentials:

  • $3.00/hr week night = $45-$58 total hourly pay

Additional differentials available if picking up other shifts:

  • $1.50/hr weekend day
  • $4.50/hr weekend night


Benefits

  • Sick Time (40 hours annually)
  • Time and a Half Holiday Pay (Detox)
  • 401k and up to 3% match after 3 months of employment
  • Up to $400 per year for approved CEUs
  • All required licensure/certification costs for position paid for by the company


Schedule:

  • Wednesday Night 7pm-730am with 30 minute lunch
    • Option to pick up additional shifts!


Responsibilities:

  • Conduct initial assessments of patients' physical and mental health, including substance abuse history, medical conditions, and vital signs.
  • Develop individualized treatment plans based on assessment findings, patient goals, and medical guidelines.
  • Administer medications, including detoxification protocols, symptom management, and medication-assisted treatments, while closely monitoring patient responses and adjusting treatment as necessary.
  • Observe and document patients' progress, including withdrawal symptoms, mental health status, vital signs, and overall physical condition.
  • Provide education and support to patients regarding the detoxification process, treatment options, and relapse prevention strategies.
  • Collaborate with the multidisciplinary team, including physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, counselors, and other healthcare professionals, to develop comprehensive treatment plans and ensure coordinated care.
  • Work very closely with nursing assistant staff to ensure procedural compliance.
  • Respond to medical emergencies and provide immediate interventions to stabilize patients.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date medical records, documenting all assessments, interventions, medications administered, and patient progress.
  • Adhere to ethical and legal standards, including maintaining patient confidentiality and following organizational policies and procedures.
  • Stay current with advancements in substance abuse treatment, detoxification protocols, and nursing practices through professional development activities and continuing education.


Requirements:

  • Valid Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) license or Valid Registered Nurse License (RN)
  • Proven experience working in substance abuse treatment or detoxification settings is strongly recommended.
  • Solid experience with direct patient care is required.
  • In-depth knowledge of detoxification protocols, withdrawal symptoms, and medication-assisted treatments.
  • Familiarity with various substance abuse treatment modalities, including individual counseling, group therapy, and support groups.
  • Strong assessment and critical thinking skills, with the ability to make sound judgments and decisions in complex situations.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively interact with patients, families, and the multidisciplinary team.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced and dynamic environment, managing multiple priorities and providing compassionate care.
  • Understanding of legal and ethical considerations related to substance abuse treatment and patient care.


License/Certification Requirements:

  • Oregon State Nursing License (Required)
  • BLS Certification (Required)
