Detailing Manager
Midsouth Steel – College Park, GA
Midsouth Steel, a leader in the fabrication and erection of structural steel, has an immediate opening for an experienced Detailing Manager.
This position will lead our team of more than 100 detailers in India while coordinating their efforts with our Project Management teams in Atlanta. The Detailing Manager will serve as both a department leader and a hands‑on technical expert, ensuring shop‑ready drawings are accurate, coordinated, and delivered with zero‑defect precision.

Key ResponsibilitiesLeadership & Department Management
  • Lead and manage a detailing department consisting of more than 100 detailers, maximizing each team member's strengths and capabilities.
  • Coordinate departmental workload to ensure customer schedules and fabrication deadlines are consistently achieved.
  • Assign detailing projects and priorities based on workload, project complexity, and required delivery dates.
  • Monitor project progress and provide technical guidance and support to detailing staff as needed.
  • Train, mentor, and develop team members to improve productivity, accuracy, and efficiency.
  • Maintain strong communication between the detailing department, Project Management, fabrication operations, engineering, and customers.
  • Ensure company detailing standards, procedures, and quality expectations are consistently followed.
  • Assist in resolving project conflicts, detailing discrepancies, and customer concerns.
  • Participate in departmental planning and continuous process improvement initiatives.
Technical Responsibilities
  • Oversee and review the modeling of multiple structural steel and miscellaneous metals projects simultaneously, ranging from large multi-hundred-ton projects to fast-track miscellaneous steel packages.
  • Review 3D structural steel models developed from architectural and structural contract documents.
  • Review shop drawings and erection drawings generated from Tekla models and contract drawings.
  • Evaluate Requests for Information (RFIs) for missing or conflicting project information and coordinate submission to the General Contractor when necessary.
  • Work closely with internal Quality Control personnel to resolve questions and update drawings.
  • Ensure released shop drawings meet project schedules so fabrication milestones are achieved on time.
Qualifications
  • Advanced proficiency with Tekla Structures, including experience with Trimble Connect and Tekla PowerFab.
  • Comprehensive understanding of structural steel fabrication processes, field erection, and miscellaneous metals.
  • Extensive experience in structural steel modeling and detailing.
  • Previous experience in a checking, lead, or management role.
  • Experience serving as the primary interface between U.S.-based Project Managers and Engineering teams and overseas detailing teams.
  • Demonstrated ability to schedule and manage multiple projects at various stages of the detailing process while meeting contractual schedules and priorities established by Project Management.
  • Thorough understanding of AISC detailing standards.
  • Experience implementing company processes, procedures, and best practices related to Tekla Structures and associated software interfaces.
  • Flexible work schedule to effectively collaborate with overseas detailing teams and support business needs.
