TITLE: Operations Manager
LOCATION: Bico Steel Service Center, Mogadore, Ohio
REPORTS TO: Vice President and General Manager
SUPERVISES: Supervisors, Managers and Hourly Union Employees
HOURS: 7:00 am -5:00 pm
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Operations Manager is responsible for all aspects of Manufacturing.
The Operations Manager supervises and coordinates activities of supervisors, managers, and workers, and should be engaged in all phases of plant operations. This includes scheduling machines and departments as needed, monitoring the quality of the work produced and assuring work meets company standards. The Operations Manager is responsible for the training and the performance of each employee in the department. The Operations Manager is also responsible for identifying better ways of getting the work done and improving the existing process, while monitoring the budget for manufacturing. The Operations Manager also manages all items related to maintenance and maintenance personnel.
CLIMATE:
Work is done in conjunction with all functional departments and plants. Must be conscientious about accuracy and communication of details. Work is often subject to time, and deadline pressures. Considerable time will be spent working in team meetings. Need to ensure customer project needs are met while achieving BICOโ€™s critical project metrics.
PERFERABLE QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Education or Experience: bachelorโ€™s degree, preferably in Engineering or Business or 8 plus years in an operations Managerโ€™s position or equivalent.
  • Training and Experience: Recent experience in Project Management, Manufacturing and Plant Management. This should include good technical skills, organizational skills, and people management skills.
  • Minimum of 3 yearsโ€™ experience in a supervisory position.
  • Extensive knowledge of manufacturing should include but not be limited to grinding, burning, plasma cutting, tooling, metal cutting, shipping, receiving, quality, purchasing, subcontracting, CAD /CAM, and scheduling. (3-5 years exp.)
  • Familiar with creating and monitoring KPI Metrics. (Key Performance Indicators)
  • Understanding of Union Environments.

Operations Manager Specific Duties:
  • Scheduling Work
    • Evaluate workload and direct Supervisors and workforce accordingly.
    • Schedule weekend shifts and Supervision as needed.
    • Monitor Production Workflow, daily and communicate with Supervisors on priorities.
  • Scheduling Activities
  • Provide information and participate in the scheduled weekly meetings.
  • Schedule and conduct safety meetings and record minutes.
  • Work with upper Management and Maintenance to schedule day-to-day maintenance issues.
  • Employees
  • Continually monitor the shop floor to ensure all employees are accounted for and working during their scheduled shift.
  • Work with Upper Management and Supervisors to arrange training and evaluate department employees.
  • Manage disciplinary issues of Supervisors and Hourly Union Employees.
  • Aid employees in solving problems that may arise.
  • Solicit ideas from employees to improve our processes and pass them on to upper Management.
  • Ensure all employees are working to keep a clean work environment.
  • Quality, Quantity, Utilization and Efficiency
  • Schedule periodic quality checks throughout the departments to ensure work is up to company standards.
  • Utilize our Non-Conformance Notification System and report all quality issues immediately to upper Management.
  • Review Labor Hours daily and provide payroll with correct man hours worked.
  • Monitor each employeeโ€™s hours to assure each job is being done within the quoted hours and confront employees as needed.
  • Monitor Bone Yard Inventory and Scrap along with proper employee usage of this system.
  • Miscellaneous
  • Oversee the ordering of shop supplies as needed.
  • Investigate modern technology, hardware and software and make suggestions for improvements.
  • Work with inside and outside sale to ensure that all jobs go through the shop in a timely fashion and all questions and concerns are answered.
  • Review Personnel performance to determine individual most suited to promotion.
