Description
Position Summary
The Mechanical Design Engineer is responsible for designing, developing, and improving mechanical systems and components for custom industrial equipment, including concrete batch plants and mixers. This role focuses on producing accurate, manufacturable designs, supporting production, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality, cost-effective solutions.
The position works closely with Engineering, Operations, Manufacturing, and Sales to ensure designs meet performance requirements, company standards, and customer specifications.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:
  • Develop 3D CAD models, assemblies, and detailed drawings for mechanical systems and equipment using Creo (or similar CAD software).
  • Create and maintain Bills of Materials (BOMs), engineering drawings, and Engineering Change Notices (ECNs) in accordance with company procedures.
  • Translate customer requirements and internal specifications into practical, manufacturable design solutions.
  • Apply company design standards (material selection, bend radii, tolerances, weldments, etc.) to all work.
  • Perform basic engineering calculations (load, stress, fit, and function) to support design decisions.
  • Collaborate with manufacturing and assembly teams to ensure design feasibility and efficient production.
  • Support troubleshooting and resolution of design-related issues during fabrication, assembly, and field installation.
  • Assist in continuous improvement initiatives related to product design, cost reduction, and manufacturability.
  • Provide technical support to internal departments including Sales, Service, Quality, and Purchasing.
  • Participate in design reviews and contribute to product development projects.
  • Maintain accurate engineering documentation and ensure data integrity within engineering systems.
  • Additional duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's or Associate degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
  • 3-5 years of experience in mechanical design, preferably in industrial equipment or manufacturing environments.
  • Proficiency in 3D CAD software (Creo, SolidWorks, AutoCAD, or similar).
  • Experience creating detailed drawings, assemblies, and BOMs.
  • Working knowledge of manufacturing processes (machining, welding, fabrication).
  • Basic understanding of mechanical systems, structural components, and material properties.
  • Strong organizational skills with ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience designing heavy equipment, batch plants, mixers, or similar large-scale machinery.
  • Familiarity with gearboxes, drives, conveyors, or rotating equipment.
  • Experience with sheet metal, weldments, and structural steel design.
  • Exposure to ERP or PLM systems (e.g., Visibility or similar).
  • Knowledge of industry standards (ASME, AWS, or similar).
  • Experience supporting production or field service teams.
  • Continuous improvement or lean manufacturing exposure.
