This Management-Supervisory position represents an exciting career opportunity for an individual experienced with direct oversight of a team of engineers and designers in the field of Substation Engineering Design.

Communication is a key element for this role.ย  This career opportunity is a hybrid (in-office/work from home), collaborative leadership role.

Education/Experience/Licensure:

  • A BS in Electrical Engineering (ABET) or BS in Mechanical Engineering (ABET) is preferred.ย  Management or related degrees, with strong experience managing technical personnel/projects will be considered.
  • The successful candidate will have six (6) or more years of experience with a minimum of two (2) of those years being recent experience associated with Substation design.ย 
  • PE is considered a plus.ย 
  • Experience with CAD software is considered a plus.

Responsibilities:

This individual will report to the Department Manager or Senior Director of Engineering and is responsible for the managerial and technical direction/supervision of a group comprised of engineers and designers.ย  Establishes work assignments and reviews performance to ensure the efficient, cost-effective utilization of staff.ย  Establishes, promotes, and assures quality on all projects and work performed by respective group.ย  Assists Department Manager and/or Senior Director in scoping/estimating projects and developing fee and scope proposals when required.ย  Monitors project execution and schedules to ensure satisfactory quality, schedule and budget performance.ย  Performs technical oversight and coordinates checking/review of deliverables and other project documentation.ย  Follows up on construction issues with design staff to resolve problems and concerns in a timely manner.ย  Interfaces directly with the Client in a professional manner and with a โ€˜Customer Serviceโ€™ focus.ย  Determines staffing needs to accommodate present and forecasted workload.ย  Responsible for selection, development, training and retention of engineers, designers, and drafters within the group.ย  Identifies training needs for staff and budgets, plans, coordinates, and conducts training as required.ย  Evaluates work performance of personnel in conjunction with the Department Manager and Senior Director.ย  Serves as Mesa's local lead supervisor, in the Dallas-Fort Worth, Texas area, in support of directives from Mesa's Knoxville, TN based management/engineering organization. Conducts group meetings with staff as required to communicate Business Unit and company objectives as required.

Additionally, promotes a strong safety culture within group and ensures staff incorporates safe work practices into all activities. ย Assists with budgeting for the department during annual budget preparation. Approves timesheets and authorizes overtime, vacation, and indirect/overhead activities. Works with Department Manager and Senior Director to identify methods to improve project execution, work processes, and procedures to continually improve quality, productivity, and efficiency.ย  A "lead by example" management style, and willingness to share knowledge and help others achieve their goals is key to success.

The successful candidate will have six (6) or more years of experience with a minimum of two (2) years of recent experience associated with Substation design.ย 

Basic understanding of electrical, mechanical and civil concepts pertaining to Substation design is required.

This opportunity is for a hybrid work environment (home and office) and requires being local to the Dallas-Fort Worth, Texas area.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong organization and time management skills.
  • Ability to interpret written/documented specifications and guide others in application to engineering design.
