Job description

Position Summary
An Assistant Project Manager/Estimator supports the successful management of construction projects from estimate through project close-out. This position works closely with Project Managers, Superintendents, subcontractors, suppliers, clients, and internal teams to help ensure projects are completed safely, on schedule, within budget, and in alignment with Conco Construction's quality standards.
Successful candidates are expected to learn and develop a strong understanding of Conco's self-performing trades, including earthwork, concrete, masonry, ironwork, carpentry, drywall, and pre-engineered metal buildings. Conco's success is highly dependent on developing and maintaining long-term client relationships, and an Assistant Project Manager/Estimator should feel at home in Conco Construction's fast-paced, high-energy environment.
Key Responsibilities
  • Assist in managing construction projects in conjunction with the Project Manager and Project Superintendent
  • Support the preparation and coordination of project-related meetings, including progress meetings, OAC meetings, and pre-installation meetings
  • Assist in creating, updating, and monitoring detailed project construction schedules
  • Review project invoices and assist with weekly invoice approval processes
  • Assist in updating job cost reports, project budgets, and estimated profits
  • Support the preparation of competitive estimates for both self-performing trades and subcontracted work
  • Assist with bid processes for hard bid and negotiated projects
  • Maintain positive relationships with clients, subcontractors, suppliers, and business partners
  • Prepare, track, and manage project RFIs, submittals, shop drawing reviews, subcontract documents, contract documents, change orders, and close-out documents
  • Assist with identifying project risks, issues, and changes, and help coordinate appropriate solutions
  • Communicate project updates, deadlines, and needs clearly with internal and external project teams
  • Support the Project Manager in ensuring project documentation is accurate, organized, and completed in a timely manner

Qualifications
Required
  • Exposure to construction project management, field operations, estimating, scheduling, or related construction processes
  • Ability to read and understand construction plans, specifications, and project documents
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to proactively identify issues and assist in developing solutions
  • Strong sense of urgency and ability to follow through on assigned tasks
  • Ability to prioritize workload and manage multiple responsibilities at one time
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Sense of ownership and accountability for assigned project duties
  • Ability to work collaboratively with Project Managers, Superintendents, subcontractors, suppliers, and clients
  • Integrity in all decisions and project-related responsibilities
  • Ability to maintain professionalism in a fast-paced, high-energy environment
  • Valid driver's license

Preferred
  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Construction Science, Engineering, or related field; or equivalent construction management experience
  • Coursework, internship, or hands-on experience related to commercial construction
  • OSHA, construction safety, or industry-related training
  • Experience in commercial construction
  • Experience working with self-performing trades such as earthwork, concrete, masonry, ironwork, carpentry, drywall, or pre-engineered metal buildings
  • Experience with project management software, estimating tools, scheduling software, or construction document management systems
  • Strong problem-solving and critical-thinking skills
  • Ability to build positive working relationships with clients, subcontractors, suppliers, and internal team members
  • Interest in developing into a Project Manager role over time
  • Willingness to learn Conco's self-performing trades and overall construction operations

Working Conditions
  • Office environment + job site visits
  • Work is primarily performed Monday through Friday with a consistent schedule; but may work some unusual hours as needed

Physical Requirements
  • Mostly sedentary, sitting at a desk within an office environment. Frequently required to reach with hands and arms, view a PC monitor, talk and hear. Occasionally required to stand, walk, stoop, or kneel.
  • May at times lift and/or move up to 30 pounds.
