Job description

Position: Manager, General Ledger
Department: Accounting
Classification: Full-time, Exempt
Reports to: Director, General Ledger
Company: DePelchin Family Services
Location: Houston, TX
Position Description:
The Manager, General Ledger, in the Accounting department, is accountable to the Director, General Ledger for compiling, reconciling, and reporting financial information for both internal and external use in the fiscal management department of DePelchin Children's Center, DePelchin Family Services, and Texans Together.
Primary Responsibilities:
  • Supervise and coordinate the monthly closing of the general ledger.
  • Assist in preparation of monthly financial statements.
  • Supervise and back up general ledger team and their functions.
  • Assist in preparation of monthly journal entries and review staff cash and general journal entries for accuracy and completeness.
  • Review and perform monthly account reconciliations, aging reports and backup reviewer for the service unit reports.
  • Assist the Director, Accounts Receivable and team preparation of government and non-government reporting, billing.
  • Review and assist in accounts receivable collections monthly.
  • Maintain cash management data.
  • Assist the Director, Financial Reporting and Analytics and team with annual financial and single audits and assist with miscellaneous external audits as required.
  • Assist in preparation of government and nongovernment reporting and various tax reporting (Form 990, 5500, Franchise Tax, Harris County Appraisal, United Way, Better Business Bureau, Cost Reports, etc.).
  • Supervise proper recording of acquisitions, disposals, and depreciation of fixed assets.
  • Assist with preparation of risk management reports required for renewal of insurance policies, and maintenance of proper records of claims.
Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Business Administration or related field.
  • Minimum five (5) years financial accounting experience.
  • Minimum five (5) years automated accounting systems experience.
  • Minimum five (5) years word processing and spreadsheet experience.
  • Minimum three (3) years supervisory experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Not-for-profit and health care industry experience desired.
  • Experience with ERP/Accounting Software with Sage Intacct.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Knowledge of Accounting practices.
  • Mathematical aptitude and organizational skills.
  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to read and interpret data, information, and documents.
  • Ability to work effectively under time constraints to meet deadlines.
Work Conditions:
  • Environment: Office-based
  • Range of Schedule: Mon - Fri, 7:00 am to 8:00 pm
  • Travel: None
