How much do deforestation jobs pay per year?

As of Jun 5, 2026, the average yearly pay for deforestation in the United States is $108,912.00, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $82,500.00 and $140,000.00 per year, depending on experience, location, and employer.

What are some common challenges faced by professionals working to manage or prevent deforestation?

Professionals working in deforestation management often encounter challenges such as balancing economic development with environmental protection, navigating complex regulatory environments, and engaging with diverse stakeholders like local communities, governments, and private companies. They may also face difficulties in implementing sustainable land-use practices and monitoring large or remote forested areas. Collaboration with interdisciplinary teams and ongoing education about emerging technologies are essential to address these challenges effectively.

What is the difference between Deforestation vs Forest Conservationist?

AspectDeforestationForest Conservationist
Primary FocusRemoving or clearing forestsProtecting and managing forests
Work EnvironmentLogging sites, remote forestsConservation areas, research centers
Required CredentialsEnvironmental science, forestry degreesEnvironmental science, forestry, or ecology degrees
Employer & IndustryLogging companies, land developersGovernment agencies, NGOs, environmental firms

Deforestation involves activities that lead to the removal of forests, often for agriculture or development. In contrast, a Forest Conservationist works to protect and sustain forest ecosystems. While both roles require environmental knowledge and similar credentials, their objectives are opposite: one clears forests, the other preserves them.

What is a Deforestation job?

A deforestation job typically involves activities related to the clearing of forests for agriculture, urban development, or logging. Workers may operate machinery, manage land use, or study environmental impacts. Some roles focus on sustainable deforestation practices or reforestation efforts. These jobs can be found in forestry, conservation, government agencies, and private industries.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Forestry Specialist, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Forestry Specialist, you need expertise in forest ecology, resource management, and environmental science, often supported by a degree in forestry or a related field. Familiarity with Geographic Information Systems (GIS), remote sensing tools, and forest inventory software is typically required. Strong analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills help professionals collaborate with stakeholders and address complex environmental issues. These skills are crucial for developing sustainable land management plans and ensuring the long-term health of forest ecosystems.

What is deforestation?

Deforestation is the process of clearing or removing forests or stands of trees from land, which is then converted to non-forest use such as agriculture, urban development, or mining. This process can have significant environmental impacts, including loss of biodiversity, disruption of water cycles, and contribution to climate change due to increased carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. Deforestation is driven by human activities such as logging, farming, and infrastructure expansion, and it is a major concern for environmental conservation globally.

Job description

Are you a force for good? Does the opportunity to devote your talents to a cause much greater than yourself excite you? Arbor Day Foundation is a place you can do work that matters, with people who care, in an inspiring environment. As we say at the Foundation: life is short, love where you work.

As one of the world's largest conservation organizations, the Arbor Day Foundation inspires people to plant, nurture, and celebrate trees. We help others understand and use trees as a solution to global issues (like air quality, water quality, climate change, deforestation, poverty, and hunger) that are critical to survival.

Arbor Day Farm is the 260-acre property owned and operated by the Arbor Day Foundation, where our mission comes to life.

You Have:

  • Self-motivation. An upbeat individual dedicated to providing outstanding guest service. Someone who is passionate about the Foundation's mission to inspire people to plant, nurture, and celebrate trees.
  • Great communication and customer service skills. Have a love for working with guests!
  • Desire to problem-solve. Enjoy looking for new ways to improve efficiency and guest experience.

You Will:

  • Be a team player. Responsibilities include overseeing daily operations of the gift shop, greeting guests, stocking shelves, rearranging products to attract attention, following safety and sanitation procedures, light cleaning, and assisting wherever needed!
  • Spend your days in our Apple House or Tree Adventure. You will be a part of a cross-trained team providing excellent guest service, whether finding an item or showing them what all our farm has to offer.
  • Professional appearance. Always appear at work looking professional and well-groomed.
  • Earn valuable work experience. You will gain valuable work experience that sets you up for other opportunities on our property.

Love Where You Work:

  • We're in this together. A culture focused on a genuine interest in the well-being of others, collaboration, and the intrinsic shared purpose to do what's right. We pride ourselves on the culture we've built. We love it, and we know you will too.
  • We care about your well-being. We offer an Employee Assistance Program for you (and your family) with support services including counseling sessions and much more.
  • We invest in your future. All team members are eligible to participate in our 401K program.
  • We know the little things matter. Our Culinary Team will provide one complimentary meal per day, you'll receive discounted rates on purchases at Arbor Day Farm, and we're eager to give growth opportunities to our best performers.
  • We'll round out the experience. We put our culture first, and we host events and experiences throughout the year to show that we care about you (and your family).
