Job description

Position Summary:

The Deductions Analyst is accountable for effectively researching, analyzing, documenting, and resolving a variety of retail deduction claims. This includes investigating and identifying deduction patterns and possible operation procedure, and contract agreement issues, assisting with solution development with sales and customer teams, and performing account reconciliation as needed. The person in this role must be a strong communicator and leader with a high level of deductive reasoning skills and analytical capabilities. Performs account reconciliation. Experience with Power BI is a plus.

Pay Range: $53,600 - $70,000

Job Duties:

  • Research, validate, and resolve logistics related deductions to include fines, fees, overages, shortages, and damages in a timely manner
  • Quickly handle urgent freight issues while working collaboratively with internal and external departments
  • Perform root cause analysis of deductions for process improvements and to eliminate future charges
  • Process “return merchandise authorizations” and “customer convenience” returns
  • Responsible for final disposition on returned product after credit is issued
  • Request and provide Proof of Delivery documentation to resolve deductions and request repay
  • Work closely with warehouse teams to request cycle counts, return product to inventory, etc.
  • Work closely with sales teams to get product sold prior to the sell-by default date
  • Utilize pipeline reports to research, resolve and reconcile logistics related deductions
  • Work open deductions in a timely manner to avoid write-offs
  • Work with Finance Deductions Analyst, customers, and transportation providers to clear deductions
  • Build relationships with customers and internal teams through trust and open and interactive communication
  • Upon request, pull shipping documentation and support for auditors
  • Problem solving, prioritizing, root cause analysis, and planning skills are essential to the position
  • Compile and distribute monthly reporting to help bring visibility to deduction trends


Qualifications & Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in accounting or finance
  • Must have 3-5 years related job experience in logistics, collections, or accounts receivable, with some knowledge of warehousing and transportation
  • Strong analytical, research, and data mining skills
  • Proven experience with Microsoft office suite and ERP/Oracle/JD Edwards system
  • Excellent interpersonal skills; ability to provide accurate, timely, and professional communication
  • Demonstratable ability to communicate verbally and in writing in a clear and logical manner
  • Strong multitasking and organizational skills
  • Must work independently, as well as in a team environment
  • Must be passionate and willing to take on more to be a team lead
  • Strong ability to train and motivate others
  • Ability to make sound business decisions after weighing options carefully
