POSITION: Maintnance/Grounds Crew Member 


LOCATION:  Hugh Mills Stadium


JOB SUMMARY:
The Dougherty County School System is seeking a maintenance/grounds crew worker to join our roster of experienced, motivated, and effective professionals. The Maintenance/Grounds Crew Worker for District Athletics is responsible for maintaining the safety, appearance, and functionality of Hugh Mills Stadium and surrounding athletic facilities. This position supports DCSS Athletics by ensuring all athletic venues are prepared for practices, competitions, and special events in a safe, clean, and professional manner. The employee is expected to demonstrate reliability, initiative, and a strong commitment to maintaining district property and supporting athletic operations.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:




  1. High school diploma or GED;
  2. Experience in grounds maintenance, landscaping, custodial, or facility maintenance work; experience maintaining athletic fields or stadium facilities preferred;
  3. Experience supporting large-scale athletic or community events, preferred;
  4. Knowledge of turf management and field preparation;
  5. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent and the Board may find appropriate.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:  

  1. Ability to operate groundskeeping and maintenance equipment safely;
  2. Ability to lift, carry, and move equipment and materials as required;
  3. Ability to work a flexible schedule, as work hours may include early mornings, evenings;
  4. weekends, and holidays depending on athletic events and seasonal demands.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Perform routine maintenance and groundskeeping duties at Hugh Mills Stadium and assigned athletic facilities;
  2. Prepare athletic fields and facilities for practices, games, and district events (field lining, equipment setup, goal placement, etc.);
  3. Operate and maintain grounds equipment including mowers, trimmers, blowers, and utility vehicles;
  4. Maintain playing surfaces to ensure safety and compliance with district and governing body standards;
  5. Assist with stadium setup and breakdown for athletic contests and special events;
  6. Monitor and report facility repair needs, safety concerns, or equipment issues;
  7. Assist with minor repairs and general facility upkeep as assigned;
  8. Ensure proper storage and care of tools and equipment;
  9. Support event-day operations, including pre- and post-event inspections;
  10. Follow all DCSS safety protocols and procedures;
  11. Perform other duties as assigned to support District Athletics operations.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, and lift for extended periods.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
