Job description

Job Summary:

City Year Washington, DC is seeking a School Partnerships Director (SPD ) for the Program and Service Department. The SPD is responsible for helping to develop City Year Washington, DC's service vision and for the overall management of the service relationships with District of Columbia Public Schools (DCPS) as well as initiation and cultivation of new service partners for CYDC.ย  The SPD reports directly to the Managing Director of Program and Service and collaborates with members of the Program and Service Leadership Team to train, implement, and evaluate outcomes of the strategic service plan and the Whole School Whole Child Model, and ensure that all AmeriCorps, City Year, and school district service goals are met.ย  The SPD will engage other CYDC staff to build, maintain, and improve service and long term partners who contribute to City Year's advancement through sharing expertise, financial support, or in-kinding services.

Responsibilities:

Manage Overall Aspects of the Service Partner Program: This includes marketing, generating and reviewing all requests for a City Year team and presenting them to the Managing Director of Program and Service.ย  The SPD works with CYDC site leadership and DCPS to determine potential new schools and to develop service partner agreements.ย  The SPD will serve as a liaison for all service partners and will be responsible for effective communication to them regarding information all service partners must have. The SPD submits School Partnerships Agreements (SPAs)ย  to Headquarters for each of the schools selected and for service products the site will utilize. The SPD will also plan and conduct beginning, mid-year and end-of-year meetings that engage all School Partnership Liaisons and teachers in the process of learning about City Year's service model, discuss progress and challenges in implementation, exchange best practices, and build loyalty and support for City Year.ย  While day to day and school specific interactions with school service partners will be owned by the Program Managers and Program Directors, the SPD will work closely with these staff to make sure the message and implementation of service are aligned. The SPD will also work closely with the Managing Director of Program and Service in working with the management and development of our partnership with DCPS and will play a key role in communicating messaging from the DCPS central office to Program and Service (ProServe) staff.

Relationship Management: The SPD will be responsible for understanding the current education and service environment in the city of Washington, DC. He/She will lead on understanding and presenting the organization system of DCPS and building and maintaining key relationships with decision-makers, support staff and others who will advance City Year's efforts.ย ย  The SPD will work closely with the DCPS City Year point person to make sure all goals are being met and that DCPS feels informed and invested in the partnership.ย  Additionally, the SPD will also identify and engage staff within DCPS to educate them about CYDCs service and ways to support it while learning about DCPS resources that will advance CYDCs goals. This will be accomplished by attending external meetings, joining community groups or work groups, and tracking media shared about education topics as they relate to service and other activities. The SPD will communicate findings to ProServe Leadership and the site's leadership team to inform on new developments that may affect our service vision.ย 

Service Product Development/Content Management: The SPD will lead the development and execution of the site's "Whole School Whole Child" strategy for product development and content management implementation, review and evaluation. He/She will work closely with the ProServe Leadership Team, Program Managers(PM), Learning and Curriculum Manager, Education Specialist, and Evaluation Specialist in building and refining the components of the program. Through regularly scheduled service observations, feedback from corps members and City Year and school staff, review of best practice research from City Year and education/youth development experts, and review of City Year data, the SPD will target areas of strength and improvement to promote to colleagues or to address through additional training or other resources. This includes:
ย Academic Support: Research, development, and implementation of the literacy and math tutoring programs.ย  The programs must align with the school district's curricula as well as state standards. Work with the Learning and Curriculum Manager to develop a tool box of resources for corps members to use during individual and small group tutoring sessions.ย  Coach PMs in how to utilize the tools to train corps members in doing the same and identifying high quality tutoring.
ย After School Programs:ย  The SPD will provide expertise in facilitating afterschool programming for elementary, middle, and high school youth via academic enrichment, homework, tutoring, and Afterschool Heroes programs.ย  The SPD will provide PMs with the tools needed to meet all CYDC goals regarding after school programming. The SPD will also work closely with the CYDC staff and corps overseeing locally developed afterschool initiatives and the Starfish Program to make sure program goals and quality are achieved.ย 
ย Positive School Climate: Provides expertise, resources and support to teams and ProServe staff on implementing successful and positive activities (i.e. Morning Greeting, assemblies, dances, fun days, etc.) that create a positive culture in the school.ย  These events would also include family/parent engagement activities. Supports all efforts around City Year's attendance and behavior work, meeting AmeriCorps and HQ goals and coordinating the collection of related student level data.

Supervision of the Service and Impact Team: The SPD will lead, direct, and manage the Evaluation Specialist, the Education Specialist, and the Learning and Curriculum Manager in the preparation, implementation and achievement of all our service, training and evaluation goals.ย  The team will work closely to identify and implement education, learning, and evaluation tools that support success of WSWC programming and ensure that all learning & development goals are met and evaluation surveys, tools, data, and CYSchoolhouse are maintained and up to date with accurate data.ย  The SPD will provide regular informal and formal feedback and written performance reviews while also identifying and utilizing ways to develop Evaluation Specialist, the Education Specialist, and the Learning and Curriculum Manager.

Serves on Program & Service Leadership Team: Works directly with the Managing Director of Program and Service and Program Directors to meet all site and AmeriCorps service goals.ย  Works with Pro Serve Leadership team to identify service specific trainings necessary for corps and staff members.

Documentation: The SPD is responsible for collecting useful letters of support and quotes from service partners and students when necessary, as well as documenting all service partner meetings.ย  They are also responsible for drafting School Partnership Agreements, DCPS and internal CY reports, and providing certificates of insurance to service partners when necessary.

Participate as a member of the City Year National Network's Program and Service Team:ย  This includes conference calls, responding to email requests, etc. The SPD may lead on selected network initiatives.

Participate in Organizational Initiatives:
ย Work with the development team to support meetings, visits and service for Corporate Sponsorship events within schools.ย 
ย Devote up to ten days a year to corps member recruitment interviews and serve on the corps selection committee.
ย Attend and help support whole site events like Opening Day, Make A Difference Day, MLK Day, National Youth Service Day, Annual Gala, Graduation and other site-wide designated events.
ย Attend overnight events including BTR, ATR, Academy (a conference for all City Year Staff held in Boston in July) and other national events.ย 
ย Participate in relevant network-wide meetings and calls providing insight and feedback and collective problem solving.
ย Participate in City Year Washington, DC portfolio groups on topics of interest.

Other duties as assigned:ย 
ย The SPD will assume other tasks as delegated by his/her supervisor.

Qualifications:

ย BA/BS degree required
ย School or school administration experience a plus
ย Knowledge of educational systems, preferably with DCPS and its structure and operations a plus
ย Experience and knowledge with relationship management
ย Demonstrated experience in non-profit, social service or educational settings
ย Proven management and leadership capabilities, independent worker, and keen attention to detail
ย Strong time management and multi-tasking skills necessary in order to manage multiple deadlines and major priorities
ย Previous experience building successful partnerships to achieve mutually beneficial outcomes
ย City Year / AmeriCorps / Peace Corps experience a plus
ย High degree of flexibility and ability to take initiative; high energy, positive, "can-do" team player.
