Job description

Caton Construction Group, one of the Caton Companies, is growing! Our family owned company is seeking an experienced Estimator to join our team for our projects in various locations in Virginia and North Carolina. We are seeking a Senior Estimator for our office in Cary, North Carolina (Raleigh area).

Summary/Objective

The Estimator is responsible for developing project estimates and schedules for civil construction projects ranging from $1M to $35M, evaluating contract requirements, and providing direction and assistance to junior team members.

Essential Functions

· Read and interpret pertinent bid documents and plans

· Perform quantity takeoffs from civil construction plans and documents

· Develop the project scope and identify necessary disciplines

· Identify subcontractor roles

· Evaluate DBE participation to ensure project goals are met

· Identify constructability issues

· Identify value engineering opportunities

· Coordinate pre-bid activities and inquiries with the owner

· Develop and review project estimates and schedules ($1M-$30M)

· Provide direction and assistance to junior team members

· Develop and deliver project bid packages

Supervisory Responsibility

· May supervise a team of junior estimators

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time position; work days are Monday through Friday. Weekend work may be required on occasion.

Travel/ Driving

· Local travel is required. May need to utilize personal transportation.

Required Education and Experience

· Associates or Bachelor’s degree in a construction related field preferred

· Associates or bachelor's degree in a construction-related field

· 4 -7 years of experience as a civil construction estimator

· Experience with Dept of Transportation specifications

· Previous experience with estimating software HeavyBid or equivalent

Preferred Education and Experience

· Experience with heavy highway, earthwork, bridge, and utility construction

· Previous work with NCDOT and VDOT
