POSITION SUMMARY:ย 
Under the guidance of the Controller, The Accountant will provide expert financial guidance and strategic support toย Dameron Hospitalโ€™s accounting team. The ideal candidate will have significant experience in healthcare accounting, aย deep understanding of healthcare financial regulations, and the ability to advise on best practices in accounting andย financial reporting. This consultant will work closely with the finance department to improve processes, ensureย compliance, and help optimize financial performance. This is a non-union position.ย 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:ย 
1. Financial Reporting & Analysis: Assist with the preparation, review, and analysis of financial statements and reports,ย ensuring compliance with GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles) and healthcare-specific regulations.
2. Budgeting & Forecasting: Support the development and management of annual budgets and forecasts. Provideย insight into financial trends, variances, and recommendations for cost control and revenue enhancement.
3. Revenue Cycle Management: Review and advise on the hospitalโ€™s revenue cycle, including billing, coding,ย collections, and reimbursement processes. Ensure alignment with payer contracts and regulatory requirements.
4. Internal Controls & Compliance: Assess and enhance the hospitalโ€™s internal control systems to ensure theย safeguarding of assets and the integrity of financial reporting. Ensure compliance with all healthcare-related financialย regulations, including Medicare, Medi-Cal, and other payer requirements.
5. Audit Support: Assist in preparing for and supporting both internal and external audits. Work with auditors to ensureย timely and accurate completion of audits and address any identified issues or concerns.
6. Cost Accounting: Support the analysis of cost structures and assist with the allocation of costs across variousย departments and service lines. Provide insights into improving cost efficiency and profitability.
7. Financial Strategy & Decision Support: Provide data-driven insights and recommendations to support hospitalย leadership in making informed strategic decisions. Advise on financial performance, investment opportunities, andย resource allocation.
8. Training & Support: Offer guidance and training to the hospitalโ€™s finance team on healthcare accounting bestย practices, new regulations, and software tools.
9. Skills:
ย  ย  ย a. Proficient in accounting software and Excel.
ย  ย  ย b. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
ย  ย  ย c. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate across departments.
ย  ย  ย d. Knowledge of cost accounting, revenue cycle management, and internal control frameworks.
ย  ย  ย e. Experience with auditing processes and financial reporting

NON-ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Willingly performs other duties as assigned or requested

FTE 1.0 - 8 hours, Days - Temporary โ€“ 90 days from the start date, unless Dameron Hospital agrees to an extension in writing.

Education: Bachelorโ€™s degree in accounting required.

Experience:

  • Minimum of five years of hands-on operational accounting preferred.
  • Must have exceptional organizational skills, be well versed in spreadsheet software and data base applications and have the aptitude and desire to investigate and resolve both accounting and system-related quandaries.
  • Must have the ability to detect and avoid errors. Must be able to type and use a 10-key calculator efficiently and effectively.
  • Must have a positive disposition, be a team player, and have good communication skills.
  • Strong understanding of healthcare finance regulations (e.g., Medicare, Medi-Cal, ICD-10 coding), billing practices, and financial reporting requirements for hospitals
