Job description

Responsibilities

We are seeking a highly skilled and innovative Database Administrator (DBA) to join our team in the greater DMV area, supporting the Army National Guard.

Responsibilities

  • Administer, secure, and optimize enterprise database platforms across development, test, staging, and production environments.
  • Lead schema design, data modeling, performance tuning, replication, backup, recovery, and capacity planning to ensure high availability and resiliency.
  • Integrate cybersecurity controls, apply STIGs, coordinate scanning/patching cycles, and align database configurations with RMF, FISMA, and DoD/Army security requirements.
  • Collaborate with developers, data engineers, architects, cybersecurity, and SOC/CIRT teams to support application performance, incident response, and vulnerability remediation.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex database incidents, performance degradations, and audit findings; produce rootcause analyses and remediation plans.
  • Guide lifecycle management and standardized procedures for provisioning, change control, and configuration management of database services.
  • Support cloud migration, hybrid hosting, and continuity of operations by designing migration strategies, replication/topology plans, and cutover procedures.
  • Maintain documentation: data dictionaries, architecture diagrams, runbooks, maintenance schedules, and audit evidence for accreditation.
  • Evaluate and recommend database technologies and automation to improve scalability, cost efficiency, and operational maturity.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 8 years with BS/BA; Minimum of 6 years with MS/MA; Minimum of 3 years with PhD
  • Clearance: Active TS/SCI clearance.

  • Candidate must meet ONE of the following:

    • Master's degree or Ph.D. in Computer Science, Cybersecurity, Data Science, Information Systems, Information Technology, Software Engineering, or a related field; OR
    • Relevant DoD/military training (examples: 411C32255A; C5552016 (P/L); C5552015 (P/L); A1500929 (P/L); C5552014 C; C5550050); OR
    • Relevant professional certification or equivalent experience (examples: SecurityX/CASP+, CCNP Security, CISA, CISSP, CISSPISSAP, CISSPISSEP).
  • Required experience and skills:

    • Database administration, data platform engineering, or systems engineering experience with at least 3 years managing enterprise database environments.
    • Expertise in database design, indexing, query optimization, replication/DR, backup/recovery strategies, and performance tuning for highvolume systems.
    • Handson experience with commercial and opensource RDBMS and cloud database services (e.g., Oracle, SQL Server, PostgreSQL, MySQL, Aurora, Azure SQL, RDS) and associated tooling.
    • Strong understanding of RMF/ATO processes, STIG application to database platforms, vulnerability remediation workflows, and audit/evidence preparation.
    • Proficiency with scripting/automation (PowerShell, Python, SQL), monitoring/observability tools, and database configuration management.
    • Proven ability to lead remediation, incident response support, and produce decisiongrade technical briefings and documentation.
  • Desired:

    • Prior DoD/Army/ARNG enterprise database or largescale production environment experience.
    • Experience with database consolidation, cloud migrations, hybrid replication topologies, and automation of provisioning and patching.
    • Familiarity with data governance, classification, and secure handling of classified/unclassified data flows.

Target Salary Range$104,000 - $166,000. This represents the typical salary range for this position. Salary is determined by various factors, including but not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the position, the individual's experience, education, knowledge, skills, and competencies, as well as geographic location and business and contract considerations.
