Job description

We are seeking an experienced Senior SQL Database Administrator to support the lifecycle sustainment of enterprise education, learning, and training applications for a national security customer. This position offers the opportunity to manage mission-critical SQL Server environments while supporting both on-premises and AWS cloud infrastructure.

The ideal candidate is a self-motivated database professional with strong Microsoft SQL Server administration experience, database automation expertise, and a passion for maintaining secure, high-performing enterprise systems.

Position Overview

As a Senior SQL Database Administrator, you will be responsible for administering, securing, maintaining, and optimizing enterprise SQL Server environments. You will perform database patching, vulnerability remediation, backups, performance tuning, automation, and cloud database management while ensuring compliance with enterprise security requirements and maintaining high system availability.

Location: Laurel, MD

Schedule: Full-Time, Onsite

Clearance Required: Active TS/SCI with Full Scope Polygraph

Responsibilities

  • Administer and maintain Microsoft SQL Server environments across on-premises and AWS cloud infrastructures.
  • Perform database patching and vulnerability remediation in accordance with IAVA requirements.
  • Generate compliance reports and maintain enterprise database security.
  • Execute database upgrades, backups, restores, and routine maintenance activities.
  • Monitor database performance and perform tuning, optimization, and troubleshooting.
  • Develop and maintain T-SQL and PowerShell scripts to automate database administration tasks.
  • Manage database user accounts, permissions, encryption, and access controls.
  • Deploy and manage SQL databases using AWS services including Amazon RDS, EC2, Lambda, and CloudFormation.
  • Support Infrastructure as Code initiatives utilizing Ansible and Terraform.
  • Develop monitoring solutions and automation tools to improve system availability and operational efficiency.
  • Troubleshoot database issues and provide timely resolution to production incidents.
  • Collaborate with application developers, infrastructure engineers, and cybersecurity teams to support enterprise database environments.
  • Maintain documentation, operational procedures, and technical standards.

Required Qualifications

  • Active TS/SCI Clearance with Polygraph.
  • Bachelor's degree in a technical discipline and at least 10 years of database administration experience. Fourteen years of experience may be substituted for a degree.
  • Extensive experience administering Microsoft SQL Server databases.
  • Experience performing database patching, upgrades, backups, restores, and maintenance.
  • Strong knowledge of SQL Server performance tuning and query optimization.
  • Experience implementing database security including user management, permissions, encryption, and access controls.
  • Experience developing T-SQL automation scripts.
  • Experience supporting enterprise database environments in both on-premises and cloud environments.
  • DoD 8570 Information Assurance Technical (IAT) Level I certification.
  • Ability to work during required core business hours.
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, communication, and problem-solving skills.
