Duties and Responsibilities

The Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles is seeking a Senior Database Analyst (SQL) to join our Technology team!

As a Senior Database Analyst (SQL) will be responsible for the design, implementation, patching, and ongoing maintenance of all database instances on multiple environments, including the release process for system and schema changes.  The Senior Database Analyst will also perform database query analysis, performance, and optimization and coordination of stored procedures and maintaining an appropriate database access layer.  In addition, the Senior Database Analyst is responsible for database performance, scalability, replication, and database reporting.

The Senior Database Analyst (SQL) reports to the SQL Services Database Administrator.  This position requires exceptional technical, analytical and collaboration skills.  The successful candidate must have the ability to communicate effectively, precisely, and accurately across all levels of the organization.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Skill in SQL Server database administration
  • Skill in working in Windows operating systems
  • Skill as a SQL developer
  • Skill in creating stored procedures
  • Skill in supporting SQL Server data replication and validation
  • Skill with SQL Server software installation, patching, and upgrading.
  • Ability to work independently and to resolve complex issues
  • Ability to effectively diagnose, isolate, and resolve complex problems pertaining to server and data infrastructure
  • Ability to write T- SQL, Stored Procedures, Functions, and Database Triggers
  • Ability to Tune SQL and T-SQL queries for performance
  • Operational support skills, including experience with system installations, migrations and upgrades
  • Knowledge of Windows scripting
  • Skill in logical database design and data models
  • Knowledge of the software development lifecycle process
  • Practical experience in monitoring and tuning a database to provide a high availability service
  • Ability to maintain currency on tools, methodologies, and technologies related to data administration

  • Strong interpersonal skills to resolve problems in a professional manner
  • Ability to effectively communicate technical data processing information verbally and in writing
  • Knowledge of SQL Server backup/recovery technologies and processes
  • Knowledge of SQL Server Replication practices and processes
  • Knowledge of SQL Server Clusters and Failover methodologies

Preferred Qualifications
Preference will be given to candidates with the following:

  • System/Application/Database development, design and/or administration
  • Developing in T-SQL or PL/SQL languages
  • Assisting application/web development teams and business area customers in the design, deployment, and development of solutions

Job Related Requirements

  • The position you are applying is subject to a Level 2 background check, along with Criminal Justice Information System (CJIS) clearance, to include a fingerprint-based check of the criminal records of the FBI, as a condition of employment pursuant to Chapter 110.1127, 435 and 943, Florida Statutes. Please note that, since this position requires CJIS clearance, the Department will have access to all an applicant's criminal and juvenile delinquency records, even those that have been sealed or expunged.
  • This position includes a regulary assigned (approximately one week a month) 24-7 on-call requirement.
  • Normal work hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., although being on-call and working after hours and on weekends may occasionally be required.

General Information

  • The elements of the selection process may include a skill assessment and/or oral interview.
  • Applicants being considered for employment will be required to submit to a fingerprint-based background investigation, which will include a check of the criminal history records of the FBI. Fingerprints and associated information/biometrics will be retained in the FBI's Next Generation Identification (NGI) system and fingerprints may continue to be compared against fingerprints submitted to or retained by NGI.
  • FLHSMV employees are paid once a month on the last workday of each month. All state employees are required to participate in the direct deposit program pursuant to s. 110.113 Florida Statutes.
