Job description


Under the direction of the Automation and Development Manager and the Sr. DBA Dev, the DBA Dev II maintains and supports all aspects of company's SQL Server database environment. The environment consists of 100+ on premise virtualized, Microsoft SQL Server instances powering several hundred in-house and third-party enterprise applications. The incumbent will also assist the development team with database level software development tasks.
Job Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in computer-related field and two to five years SQL and or programming experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Evidence of ability to analyze and translate user requirements into specifications and prepare detailed design/implementation documentation.
  • Demonstrated ability in analytical reasoning and logical problem solving.
  • Hands-on knowledge and experience of SQL Server design, build, configuration, administration, and troubleshooting.
  • Hands-on knowledge and experience in development and scripting in a variety of programming languages, including T-SQL, PowerShell, C#, SSIS, SSRS.
  • Preferred:
    • Knowledge of Microsoft Server + CAL and Core licensing models and editions.
    • Knowledge and experience in DevOps practices, CI/CD and Agile.
    • Knowledge and experience in advanced SQL Server features and architectures including Cloud, AlwaysOn and containerization.
    • Ability to advocate for appropriate technology solutions and to continually advance the organization's readiness and capabilities.

Job Duties and Responsibilities
  • Install and configure Microsoft SQL Server database instances.
  • Maintain, monitor, and patch existing SQL Server database instances.
  • Add, modify, and audit system/user permission to databases or servers, maintain appropriate system security levels and continually improve enterprise threat posture.
  • Maintain, monitor, and audit database backups and jobs.
  • Upgrade and migrate legacy SQL versions.
  • Perform application capacity planning, set up, performance tuning and monitoring.
  • Work with infrastructure team for cluster resource planning, participate in purchasing decisions, testing and presales due diligence.
  • Detect and troubleshoot database slowness, resource contention, locking and blocking.
  • Provide continuous planned uptime and participate in rotating on-call duties, DR planning and implementation.
  • Assist with SQL database build and task automation.
  • Develop new and maintain existing in-house developed queries, views, stored procedures, reports, and ETLs.
  • Participate in agile team development projects.
