Job description

At Expedia Group, we help travelers explore the world, one journey at a time. As a global travel company powered by passionate people, trusted partnerships, and leading technology, we connect travelers, partners, and advertisers through our consumer brands, B2B network, and travel advertising business. Here, you'll do meaningful work that helps millions of people discover, book, and experience travel with more ease, confidence, and joy. Our five Behaviors–Traveler First, Think Big, Operate with Excellence, Ownership Mindset, and Succeed Together–help foster a supportive environment where people can grow their careers and have the flexibility, benefits, and support to do their best work. Join us and build for travelers everywhere.

Principal Product Manager – Data Products

Introduction to the Team: The Product Team creates high-quality end-to-end experiences for travelers, partners, and Expedia Group. Our customer-first mindset focuses on developing products that encourage loyalty and repeat business from our travelers and partners. We partner closely with teams across Expedia Group to achieve growth and results for our customers and company.

As a Principal Product Manager overseeing Customer Data Platform, you will tackle the largest and most complex data problems at Expedia Group – shaping the data foundations that power machine learning, personalization, agentic experiences, and predictive intelligence across the company. Our team owns data products across eight distinct domains – including customer, partner, competitive intelligence, and destinations – and this role exists to raise the bar on how those signals are structured, connected, and made usable for the ML scientists and product teams building the next generation of traveler and partner experiences. You will move between the biggest problems on the team, operate with high executive visibility, and set the technical direction that Senior PMs and engineering partners build against.

In this role, you will:

  • Own the vision, strategy, and roadmap for data products that enable traveler and partner product experiences, analytics, machine learning, and many other use cases – designing granular, sub-entity event datasets that normalize raw domain events into insights about core entities.
  • Drive the customer data and personalization enablement work stream, one of the highest-visibility initiatives across the company, in close collaboration with senior leadership.
  • Build data products from raw servicing signals – voice transcripts, agentic experience logs, case metadata – and convert them into predictive insights on service incidents, seasonality, market anomalies, supply quality, and property-level trends.
  • Design and deliver data flywheels that connect facts and insights across our eight data domains, unlocking cross-domain intelligence for onsite personalization, offsite targeting, supply partner conversations, and destination content.
  • Partner directly with ML scientists, translating model requirements into data product specifications, and speaking their language fluently enough to challenge assumptions and shape what gets built.
  • Support analytics, servicing, Advertising, Marketing, and other Partner product teams, ensuring the data products you build serve partner-facing experiences, dashboards and reports, and agentic experiences without compromising utility for any given use case.
  • Move fluidly between the team’s highest-priority problems as the roadmap evolves, taking on ambiguous, executive-sponsored initiatives that other roles are not scoped to lead.
  • Navigate a large, matrixed, and rapidly reorganizing environment to identify the right stakeholders, align cross‑functional partners, and drive decisions where the org chart alone will not tell you who to talk to.
  • Represent the team in front of senior executives, including at the VP, SVP, and C‑level, with the substance of a data expert and the communication skills to bring non‑technical leaders along.
  • Mentor Senior and mid‑level Product Managers on the team, raising the craft of data product management and coaching others on ML‑adjacent data work.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in a technical field (e.g., Engineering, Computer Science, Statistics, Applied Math) or equivalent practical experience.
  • 12+ years of product management experience with a Bachelor’s, or 10+ years with a Master’s, including significant time building data platforms or data products.
  • Direct, hands‑on experience building data products intended for machine learning training – including granular event‑level or sub‑entity datasets with the dimensionality and history required for model development.
  • Demonstrated experience partnering with machine learning scientists as a primary customer, and the technical fluency to speak their language and understand how the data will be consumed by models.
  • Strong understanding of data architecture, data modeling, and modern data technologies, with the technical depth to write and decompose SQL and engage directly with pipelines and systems when needed.
  • Track record of operating at Principal scope: moving between major problems, leading ambiguous initiatives, and shaping outcomes without a fixed team beneath you.
  • Proven executive presence and communication skills – comfortable representing complex data work in front of senior executives and translating it for non‑technical audiences.
  • Experience navigating large, matrixed organizations and identifying the right stakeholders in environments where the formal structure does not fully reflect where decisions get made.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience building data products that power agentic or generative AI experiences (e.g., data extracted from LLM‑driven traveler or partner conversations).
  • Hands‑on experience with real‑time data systems, APIs, and streaming platforms (e.g., Kafka, Kinesis).
  • Prior experience in travel, e‑commerce, marketplaces, or another high‑scale consumer domain where personalization and predictive intelligence are core to the business.
  • Experience designing cross‑domain data flywheels or connected insight programs that span multiple data domains and multiple downstream consumers.
  • Experience mentoring Senior Product Managers and contributing to the growth of a product management practice.

The total cash range for this position in Austin is $224,000.00 to $313,500.00. Employees in this role have the potential to increase their pay up to $358,500.00, which is the top of the range, based on ongoing, demonstrated, and sustained performance in the role. Starting pay for this role will vary based on multiple factors, including location, available budget, and an individual’s knowledge, skills, and experience. Pay ranges may be modified in the future.

Benefits and perks
  • Expedia Group offers benefits and perks designed to support employees and their families, including medical, dental, and vision coverage, paid time off, an Employee Assistance Program, wellness and travel reimbursement, travel discounts, and International Airlines Travel Agent Network (IATAN) membership.
