Job description

Job Summary
The Data Product Owner is responsible for ensuring that the NiSource Central Data Lakehouse is designed and developed as one source of the truth that will support current and future analytics uses cases. You'll be responsible for creating and maintaining the vision and value for the foundational data products. You'll continually reprioritize backlog of defects and new development requests for the line(s) that support their data products, working with Technology leadership and stakeholders. Your role provides business-minded thought leadership throughout all phases of data development, including intake, work initiation and iteration planning and project estimations; they develop business requirements, manage communications between Technology and business, resolve blockers/questions/support needs, conduct/coordinate User Acceptance Testing (UAT) and approve releases. You'll evaluate potential impacts to data products, coordinate with stakeholders and serve as steward for data governance, access rights/audits and defect resolution. The ideal candidate has an in-depth knowledge and understanding of data architecture and database concepts in the Azure Cloud platform.
Essential Functions
  • Product Development - Conducts current state business landscape analysis including people, process, technology assessments plus future state business analysis to understand users' needs and expectations through a product-thinking lens. Oversees the entirety of product development lifecycle.
  • Stakeholder management - Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including data engineers, data scientists, analysts, and business stakeholders, to gather requirements and define product features.
  • Technical Leadership - In partnership with IT and Business subject matter experts, supports mapping specifications for the development team to follow in the development of the data lake.
  • User Experience and Acceptance - Coordinates user acceptance testing with business stakeholders and other cross-functional teams through providing learning materials, hands-on training, documentation, and obtaining sign-off from the responsible party.
  • Prioritization - Prioritize product features and enhancements based on business value, customer needs, and technical feasibility. Balance issues and defects within the framework.
  • Product Vision and Strategy - Support, develop and communicate the vision and strategy set forth by the Data Product Manager for the data products of the Enterprise Data Lake.

Required Qualifications for Position
  • Bachelor's Degree or relevant work experience
  • 4-6 years relevant experience delivering Technology enabled business solutions
  • 4-6 years querying, profiling and analyzing data
  • 4-6 years working with Cloud based Data Architecture
  • 4-6 years working with cross functional teams
  • Experience in building relationships and developing data solutions.
  • Proficient with SQL and/or Python.
  • Analytical skills with high attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to present complex concepts, influence, prioritize, and organize.
  • Strong ability to understand business context and objectives, translating into technical requirements.
  • Ability to inject leadership within cross-functional teams.

Preferred Additional Qualifications for Position
  • 4-6 years in Data Governance, Data Engineering, Data Architecture, or Data Product Ownership

Salary Range*:
$96,600.00 - $144,900.00
*The salary offered to a candidate is based on several factors including but not limited to the candidate's skills, job-related knowledge, and relevant experience, as well as internal pay equity.
