District-Wide Position
POSITION TYPE AND STATUS: 
Substitute School Nurse or Nurse Assistant
Located a  mile from the Atlantic Ocean and 15 minutes from Portland, RSU 23 is a 700 student, three-school district seeking a Substitute School Nurse or Nurse Assistant to join our team. Under the direction and supervision of the certificated school nurse, this position will assist the school nurse in meeting the comprehensive health needs of students in the educational environment. Responsibilities include performing basic first aid for sick or injured students, taking temperatures, checking vital signs, assisting with self-management of diabetes, immunization compliance review and data entry, clerical assistance, communication with parents and students as directed by RN's, communication regarding Covid protocols as directed by RN, administering medications (including emergency medications) and documentation of administration, assist with vision and hearing screenings and assist with special projects.
The pay rate is $175.00 per day. Candidates are required to possess a current and valid EMT, CNA, MA, RN certification.
CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:









  • High school diploma and equivalent of 2 years of college.
  • Experience working with adolescents and/or school age children
  • Current and valid EMT, CNA, MA, or RN certification
  • Maine Department of Education CHRC (Criminal History Record Check) https://www.maine.gov/doe/cert/fingerprinting

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • CPR and first aid training
  • Experience with data entry and/ or Excel and Microsoft office
  • Ability to be flexible and change based on needs of school and/or district
  • Experience working with families, youth and/or  children from diverse ethnic, socioeconomic and cultural communities
  • Ability to lift object weighing 20 pounds
  • Possess strong communication, organizational and interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrates personal characteristics of punctuality, dependability, and ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Flexible in learning new concepts, cooperates with others, and adapts to a variety of assignments and conditions.
