What is a Data Conversion Analyst?

A Data Conversion Analyst is a professional responsible for transferring, transforming, and validating data when organizations move data between systems, databases, or formats. They analyze source and target data structures, create mapping documents, and ensure data integrity throughout the conversion process. Data Conversion Analysts also identify data quality issues, resolve inconsistencies, and may develop scripts or use specialized tools to automate data migration tasks. Their work is crucial during system upgrades, mergers, or implementation of new software to ensure business continuity and accuracy.

What Does a Data Conversion Analyst Do?

A data conversion analyst is a job in the computer science industry with a focus on database management systems. Your responsibilities in this career revolve around working with clients to convert data between different formats. Sometimes this conversion is to make the data compatible with a different system. Other times, it may be to make the information more accessible and user-friendly. Regardless, your duties as a data conversion analyst are to determine the specifications needed to transfer data from one format to another, test the conversion process to ensure that data is corruption-free, and provide resolutions to any errors or issues that may occur. You may also create a process for converting data and then train another employee to complete the process en masse.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Data Conversion Analyst, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Data Conversion Analyst, you need strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and a background in data management or computer science, often supported by a relevant degree. Familiarity with ETL tools, SQL, data mapping software, and sometimes certifications in data analytics or specific platforms are typically expected. Excellent problem-solving, communication, and project management skills help you collaborate with teams and address data migration challenges. These skills are vital to ensure accurate, efficient data transfers and minimize errors during system implementations or upgrades.

What are the typical challenges faced during large-scale data migration projects as a Data Conversion Analyst?

Data Conversion Analysts often encounter challenges such as ensuring data integrity, dealing with legacy systems, and mapping data accurately between different platforms. It is common to handle incomplete or inconsistent data, which requires strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail. Collaboration with IT, business stakeholders, and end-users is essential to clarify requirements and validate converted data. Effective communication and thorough testing are key to minimizing disruptions during the migration process.

Be part of a team that unleashes the power of leading-edge technologies to help improve the health and well-being of those most vulnerable in our country and communities. Working at Gainwell carries its rewards. You'll have an incredible opportunity to grow your career in a company that values work flexibility, learning, and career development. You'll add to your technical credentials and certifications while enjoying a generous, flexible vacation policy and educational assistance. We also have comprehensive leadership and technical development academies to help build your skills and capabilities.
Summary
The Principal Provider Integration & Analytics Delivery Manager is a senior, client-facing techno-functional leader responsible for end-to-end data and analytics delivery for Gainwell's Provider+ solution. This role oversees all reporting, interface/integration, data conversion, and analytics workstreams, ensuring technical design integrity, data quality, and compliance across requirements, design, build/configuration, testing (SIT/UAT), and implementations. The role partners closely with Engagement Leaders to align technical delivery with client commitments, provide expert guidance on feasibility, risks, and trade-offs, and drive rigorous cross-team execution while managing delivery plans and outcomes.
Your role in our mission
  • Oversee end-to-end delivery of data integration, interfaces, conversions, reporting, and analytics for Provider+ implementations across all lifecycle phases.
  • Own and maintain the integration/interface catalog, including all inbound and outbound data exchanges (e.g., provider enrollment, credentialing, screening, MCOs, state hubs).
  • Lead technical design integrity for interfaces, APIs, data mappings, schemas, error handling, and reconciliation, ensuring traceability from requirements through testing.
  • Coordinate with engineering and platform teams on build/configuration/localization of integrations, conversions, and analytics pipelines; validate unit and integration test evidence prior to SIT.
  • Define and govern provider data conversion and migration strategy, including mapping, cleansing rules, load approach, cutover sequencing, reconciliation, and acceptance criteria.
  • Drive analytics and reporting readiness, ensuring datasets, feeds, semantic models, and dashboards are aligned to source-of-truth and ready for UAT and production.
  • Ensure non-functional requirements and compliance (security, privacy, auditability, performance) are met in partnership with Architecture and Security teams.
  • Serve as the primary technical/data advisor to the Engagement Lead, assessing feasibility of requirements and providing impact analysis and options for scope/schedule trade-offs.
  • Lead client facing delivery cadences, including recuring program wide delivery meetings and executive ready status reporting with clear risks and mitigations.
  • Drive technical execution quality by setting and enforcing delivery standards, including documentation, coding guidelines, peer reviews, and unit testing expectations.
  • Support staffing and financial forecasting inputs, and budget cycle activities needed to keep delivery on track.

What we're looking for
  • 8+ years of Management Consulting experience in Medicaid State & Local Government OR Commercial Payer Experience
  • Proven experience leading large-scale data integration, analytics, and reporting deliveries with significant scope and complexity.
  • Strong client-facing communication and stakeholder management skills, including governance leadership and executive-level reporting.
  • Deep technical expertise in enterprise data warehousing and BI, including data architecture, data modeling, ETL/ELT patterns, data quality, and reconciliation.
  • Hands-on experience with modern data platforms such as Databricks or comparable technologies (e.g., Snowflake, Azure Synapse).
  • Proficiency with Power BI (semantic models, dashboards, deployment practices) and advanced SQL for data analysis and automation.
  • Strong experience with system integrations and interfaces, including API-based integrations and industry standards such as FHIR (Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resources).

What you should expect in this role
  • Remote Opportunity within the United States
  • Video cameras must be used during all interviews, as well as during the initial week of orientation.
  • This posting is intended for pipelining. We will accept applications on an ongoing basis

The pay range for this position is $100,800.00 - $144,000.00 per year, however, the base pay offered may vary depending on geographic region, internal equity, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors.
