What is a Data Conversion Analyst?

A Data Conversion Analyst is a professional responsible for transferring, transforming, and validating data when organizations move data between systems, databases, or formats. They analyze source and target data structures, create mapping documents, and ensure data integrity throughout the conversion process. Data Conversion Analysts also identify data quality issues, resolve inconsistencies, and may develop scripts or use specialized tools to automate data migration tasks. Their work is crucial during system upgrades, mergers, or implementation of new software to ensure business continuity and accuracy.

What Does a Data Conversion Analyst Do?

A data conversion analyst is a job in the computer science industry with a focus on database management systems. Your responsibilities in this career revolve around working with clients to convert data between different formats. Sometimes this conversion is to make the data compatible with a different system. Other times, it may be to make the information more accessible and user-friendly. Regardless, your duties as a data conversion analyst are to determine the specifications needed to transfer data from one format to another, test the conversion process to ensure that data is corruption-free, and provide resolutions to any errors or issues that may occur. You may also create a process for converting data and then train another employee to complete the process en masse.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Data Conversion Analyst, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Data Conversion Analyst, you need strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and a background in data management or computer science, often supported by a relevant degree. Familiarity with ETL tools, SQL, data mapping software, and sometimes certifications in data analytics or specific platforms are typically expected. Excellent problem-solving, communication, and project management skills help you collaborate with teams and address data migration challenges. These skills are vital to ensure accurate, efficient data transfers and minimize errors during system implementations or upgrades.

What are the typical challenges faced during large-scale data migration projects as a Data Conversion Analyst?

Data Conversion Analysts often encounter challenges such as ensuring data integrity, dealing with legacy systems, and mapping data accurately between different platforms. It is common to handle incomplete or inconsistent data, which requires strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail. Collaboration with IT, business stakeholders, and end-users is essential to clarify requirements and validate converted data. Effective communication and thorough testing are key to minimizing disruptions during the migration process.

Job Location: The Woodlands, TX 77380

Job Duration: 18 Months Contract with possible extension or conversion to FTE

JOB DESCRIPTION:

We are seeking an experienced Data Migration Consultant to support the Source-to-Pay (S2P) program at a major energy client's campus in The Woodlands, TX. This is an 18-month onsite contract role with direct involvement in a high-visibility data migration and system implementation initiative spanning Contingent Labor, Services Procurement, and Tracking workstreams.

What You'll Do

Data Conversion & Validation

You will play a hands-on role in migrating legacy Beeline Contingent Labor data into the future-state system, working closely with SMEs, Data Stewards, and third-party transformation partners. Responsibilities include:

  • Data Design – Identify critical Beeline Contingent Labor tables and fields needed to support future-state design; document required source and target systems and the transformation logic between them.
  • Data Mapping – Establish and confirm data rules for populating the target structure from legacy data, including copy/move, default, construct, conditional logic, and cross-reference (Xref) mapping.
  • Data Cleansing & Validation – Profile legacy data to identify cleansing opportunities; validate that third-party transformed data meets future-state system requirements and design specifications.

Training Development

You will support the development of end-user training materials across all three program tracks (Contingent Labor, Services Procurement, and Tracking), including:

  • Building step-by-step Quick Reference Guides (QRGs) tailored to different user roles using existing QRG templates
  • Adapting existing Beeline training materials to reflect client-specific processes and workflows
  • Collaborating with SMEs to review, refine, and validate training content prior to delivery

What You'll Bring

  • Hands-on experience with the Beeline platform, particularly configuration and foundational/background tables
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to work through large, complex datasets and identify integrity issues
  • Proficiency in advanced Microsoft Excel for data analysis, manipulation, and validation
  • Ability to learn new data structures quickly, identify gaps, and independently track down missing information
  • Comfort working directly with business SMEs and third-party vendors in a collaborative onsite environment

Logistics

  • Location: The Woodlands, TX (onsite at client campus; presence with SMEs and third-party contacts required)
  • Duration: Approximately 18 months
  • Contract Type: W2 only (NO 1099 OR C2C)

I look forward to hearing back from you soon!!
