Description

Compensation: $80,000/year - $90,000/year

Position Summary:

At Children's Aid, we believe that all kids have limitless potential. Our dedicated staff provides comprehensive support for nearly 50,000 children and families in targeted, under-resourced New York City neighborhoods. We know what it takes to ensure children grow up strong, healthy, and ready to thrive in school and life: excellent education and health care, social-emotional support, and strong, stable families.

The mission of the Office of Performance Management is to create sustainable data-driven operations in programmatic and central divisions to increase effectiveness and achieve mission-driven outcomes for children. The Data Analyst contributes to this mission through database creation, management, analysis, reporting, and collaboration with a diverse array of programs and central departments. The Data Analyst possesses superior data management and analytic skills, as well as a proven ability to communicate in writing and verbally with a wide range of stakeholders to foster accountability and learning, including effectively translating technical issues and concepts into accessible insights for non-technical audiences.

Essential Duties:

  • Create and/or strengthen systems for data collection, management, reporting, and analysis including documenting all procedures.
  • Create databases to aggregate data from multiple sources to track process and outcome measures.
  • Create and produce recurring and ad hoc reports of operational and performance indicators for all levels of staff, Board, and external audiences.
  • Analyze actual performance against projected performance as well as trends within and across programs on a regular basis.
  • Collaborate with Performance Management staff in working directly with programs and departments to implement all components of a comprehensive performance management system.
  • Assist staff with accessing and analyzing data to inform them of strategic and programmatic decisions.
  • Manage the exchange of data pursuant to data-sharing agreements, observing all confidentiality and use requirements.
  • Train staff on data collection, entry, management, and analysis.
  • Participate in Children's Aid's Data Governance Council.
  • Develop and maintain Power BI dashboards and reporting tools that help program teams and leadership monitor key performance indicators and operational metrics.
  • Support the creation of agency-wide performance dashboard by helping to standardize data definitions, reporting logic, and KPI structures across multiple divisions.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders and IT teams to connect and organize data from multiple program systems into centralized reporting structures.
  • Assist with documenting data flows, data definitions, and reporting processes as part of broader organizational data governance and data strategy initiatives.
  • Contribute to efforts to inventory and map organizational data systems to better understand how data is collected, stored, and used across the agency.
  • Support the development of scalable data pipelines and reporting processes that allow data from multiple sources to be integrated into centralized analytics.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor of Arts or Sciences with an emphasis on database design, development, and data management for the social or health sciences; a Master's preferred.
  • Minimum 3 years of demonstrated, high level of expertise with Excel, SQL scripting, and relational databases.

  • 1+ years of experience working with multiple data systems and integrating data for reporting or analytics purposes.
  • Experience documenting data processes, definitions, or reporting methodologies.

Key Competencies:

  • Experience using various third-party business intelligence or report writing tools (e.g., SAP Business Objects, SAP Crystal Reports, IBM COGNOS, etc.)
