Job description

Salary Range: $31.35 - $43.19
Pay rates are determined based on experience and internal equity.
Position Summary:
  • The Junior Data Analysis Specialist reports to the Director of Information Systems.
  • Supports the translation of clinical, financial, and operational data into actionable insights by preparing datasets, building reports, and maintaining dashboards under the direction of senior staff.
  • Performs data extraction, validation, report generation, and basic trend analysis using data from Altera Sunrise and eClinicalWorks EHR platforms.
  • Assists senior analysts and department leaders with data requests, recurring reporting deliverables, and ad hoc analytical support.
  • Works well under stress or tight deadlines.
  • Establishes and maintains effective, courteous, and respectful working relationships with patients, families, members of the medical and nursing staffs as well as co-workers.

Position Duties/Responsibility:
  • EHR Data Extraction & Reporting:
    • Extract and compile clinical and operational data from Altera Sunrise and eClinicalWorks to fulfill recurring and ad hoc reporting requests.
    • Validate data accuracy and consistency across sources, flagging discrepancies for senior review.
    • Assist with monitoring EHR utilization patterns and documenting findings for workflow improvement initiatives.
    • Support system transitions and upgrades by gathering baseline and post-implementation data as directed.
  • Revenue Cycle Reporting Support:
    • Prepare recurring revenue cycle reports including denial tracking, charge capture summaries, and payer mix breakdowns.
    • Assist with data gathering for root cause analysis on revenue cycle performance issues under senior staff direction.
    • Maintain and update existing revenue cycle dashboards and reporting templates.
    • Pull benchmarking data from external sources as directed to support peer comparisons.
  • Operational Reporting & Dashboard Maintenance:
    • Build and maintain departmental and operational dashboards using Power BI, Tableau, or equivalent visualization tools.
    • Prepare data summaries and visualizations for senior staff to use in executive and board-level presentations.
    • Assist department leaders with routine data requests related to throughput, staffing, length of stay, and utilization.
    • Document data sources, report definitions, and recurring report methodologies.
  • Population Health & Regulatory Reporting Support:
    • Assist with data compilation for state and federal quality reporting programs (CMS, CDPH, OSHPD/HCAI).
    • Support population health data pulls and basic trend summaries under senior direction.
    • Help maintain data required for Health Information Exchange participation and California Data Exchange Framework compliance.
  • Cross-Functional Support:
    • Participate in cross-departmental projects as a data support resource.
    • Assist with data collection for grant performance tracking and outcomes measurement.
    • Identify opportunities to automate or streamline recurring manual reporting processes.
    • Follow established data governance standards including data definitions and source-of-truth hierarchies.
Position Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Health Informatics, Data Science, Statistics, Business Analytics, or related field required
  • Minimum 1 year of data analysis or reporting experience. Exposure to healthcare data concepts (revenue cycle, clinical quality, or operational metrics) preferred.
  • Certifications: None required. CHDA, CPHIMS, or equivalent considered a plus.
  • Skills/Ability:
  1. Working knowledge of SQL for data querying.
  2. Familiarity with data visualization tools such as Power BI, Tableau, or similar platforms.
  3. Proficiency in Excel including pivot tables, formulas, and basic data manipulation.
  4. Ability to learn healthcare data standards, coding systems (ICD-10, CPT, HCPCS), and regulatory reporting requirements.
  5. Attention to detail and commitment to data accuracy.
  6. Strong written and verbal communication skills with ability to present data clearly.
  7. Familiarity with HIPAA privacy and security requirements.
  8. Willingness to learn and take direction while progressively developing independent analytical capabilities.
  9. Effective collaboration across clinical, financial, and operational departments.
  10. Establishes and maintains effective, positive working relations with departmental employees, hospital staff, medical staff and patients.
