Job description

Milton Hershey School (MHS) is one of the world's best pre-K through 12th grade private schools, where approximately 2,200 students from disadvantaged backgrounds are provided with a cost-free home and a top-notch education.  Thanks to the generosity of Milton and Catherine Hershey in 1909, the school is fully endowed today, with the resources to ensure students can thrive.  The school has prepared over 12,000 graduates to lead fulfilling and productive lives and is expanding to serve more students for future generations.

MHS is seeking a student-centered part-time Dance Teacher to work with Elementary & Middle School dance studios.  This is a 10-month position (August-June), up to 29 hours per week, including before school, after school, and some weekends.  This role will provide engaging instruction that builds foundational dance & leadership skills, and developing confidence. The elementary/middle school dance teacher will organize rehearsals, choreograph and prepare students for performances, and collaborate with faculty members.

The dance teacher must create a safe & inclusive environment where all students feel supported, motivated and inspired to fully reach their potential, both in academics and in life.  MHS teachers are represented by the Milton Hershey School Education Association (MHEA).

  • Bachelor's degree in dance, education, or related field, preferred.

  • Experience teaching multiple dance styles (tap, ballet, modern, jazz) using a variety of instructional practices.

  • Minimum 3 years instructional experience with school age students (elementary through high school).

  • Skilled in monitoring, mentoring and developing youth.  Experience with low-income students a plus.

  • Strong organizational skills, classroom management, and communication skills.

  • Availability to work throughout the school calendar year - August through June and weekends.

  • Candidates must demonstrate a high degree of integrity, as all MHS staff are role models for MHS students.

  • Candidates must be willing to actively engage with students beyond the scope of their job responsibilities. Â
