Job description

Responsible for planning and implementing quality dance instruction for participants ranging in age from 18mon. to 18 years old. This is a part-time II, non-exempt position that will take place during specified program and event dates when participant registration meets minimum requirements.
Requirements
The Dance Instructor must have a high school diploma or equivalent, experience, skill and knowledge in teaching a wide range of specified dance styles and techniques. Must also have experience in teaching children and teenagers.
• Displays emotional maturity, respect, patience, flexibility and understanding when working with participants and their parents.
• Develops age and content appropriate program lesson plans.
• Assists in the development of program descriptions for seasonal brochures.
• Informs program administrator of seasonal program date and time needs.
• Obtains supplies for programs.
• Contacts program administrator prior to the start of sessions to determine program registration needs and potential cancellations and strives to find ways to accommodate those on waiting lists.
• Obtains updated class lists from Park District Registrar and takes attendance for each class.
• Directs activities which are planned and approved for specific program.
• Identifies and reports to the Park District staff and/or program administrator about special situations, accidents, incidents, repairs, patron complaints, etc.
• Communicates with parents regarding their child's progress and any behavior issues.
• Works within allotted time for planning, preparation and implantation of programs.
• Attends any required in-service training.
• Notifies program administrator of any planned and unplanned program cancellations and assists in notifying program participants.
• Choreographs dance routines for dance classes to perform in annual dance recitals.
• Coordinates dance recitals, picture day and dress rehearsal in conjunction with other Park District Dance Instructors and the Superintendent of Recreation.
• Attends meetings with Superintendent of Recreation, NRC East Facility Coordinator & other Park District Dance Instructors.
• Works closely with other Park District Dance Instructors.
• Communicates with participants and parents about dance costume measurements, dance costume application, picture day, dance dress rehearsal, dance recitals, etc.
• Communicates with recital venue staff regarding special rehearsal and recital needs.
• Assists in the marketing of Park District programs.
• Promotes a positive attitude among staff members and patrons.
• Obtains and maintain CPR, first aid and AED certifications.
• Promotes and performs all job tasks within the rules and guidelines of the Park District's safety program.
• Exhibits pride in the facility and a vested interest by keeping dance studios clean and orderly.
