Job description

American Heritage School is a mission-driven, faith-centered private school aligned with the teachings and values of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. We are seeking a dance team head coach who is passionate about both dance excellence and helping students grow physically, spiritually, socially, and intellectually.


Practices and performances: Practices 2-4 times per week beginning October 2026. Season finishes in mid-February 2027. Performances about once per week at halftime of varsity boys and girls basketball games.


Nature of the Role
This position is considered a faith-forming role within American Heritage School. In addition to quality dance instruction, coaches are expected to actively support, model, and teach principles consistent with the Mission and values of AHS and the teachings of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Qualifications
Candidates should have a dance background (hip hop, jazz, contemporary), with coach experience preferred. Successful candidates will demonstrate:

  • An enduring love of youth and a genuine passion for teaching and learning
  • The ability to use sports as a tool to build better disciples of Jesus Christ and Christian character.
  • A commitment to actively participate in and contribute to a faith-based educational environment aligned with the teachings and values of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints
  • Strong communication and team management skills
  • High energy and a warm, consistent presence at practices and performances
  • Experience preparing and delivering practices built from quality practice plans
  • Experience establishing and communicating clear learning objectives
  • Ability to use a variety of coaching and teaching methods and a willingness to continue learning and growing professionally


Faith and Mission Responsibilities
In addition to coach responsibilities, coaches at AHS are expected to:

  • Integrate faith-based principles and moral reasoning into sport instruction where appropriate
  • Serve as an example of Christian character and discipleship to students
  • Support and uphold the spiritual mission of the school through daily interactions with students and colleagues
  • Respond thoughtfully to student questions related to faith, values, and moral decision-making in a manner consistent with the school's mission

Candidates should be professional in appearance and demeanor and willing and able to serve as ambassadors for the AHS Mission, Honor Code, and Diversity Statement on and off campus. Personal conduct, public statements, and online presence, both on and off campus, are expected to reflect and support the school's religious mission and educational purpose.
