Position Summary / Job Goals:

The Assistant Dance/Cheer Coach supports the Department of Athletics by providing instruction, supervision, and performance preparation for middle school and high school dance and cheer teams. This position requires consistent availability before and after school, as well as attendance at practices, games, competitions, events, and overnight travel as required. The role focuses primarily on the middle school team, with ongoing support provided to the high school program. The Assistant Coach is expected to demonstrate professionalism, technical expertise, and a strong commitment to student-athlete development in alignment with The Village School and Nord Anglia Education values. 

Qualifications / Training:
  • Bachelor's Degree required
  • Willingness and ability to work before school, after school, evenings, weekends, and during school breaks as required by the athletic schedule
  • Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children
  • Willingness to complete required child protection and safeguarding training
  • Compliance with background check and employment eligibility requirements 
Experience / Knowledge:
  • Two or more years of experience training dance and/or cheer teams in a school, athletic, studio, or gym environment
  • Strong knowledge of dance and cheer technique, including warm-ups, turns, jumps, motion technique, leg extensions, foot articulation, and complementary lifts
  • Experience choreographing competition routines at the middle school beginner/intermediate level (pom, jazz, or hip hop)
  • Proficiency with basic computer software
  • Basic graphic design skills, including the ability to create flyers and programs using design software

Director of Athletics

Major Responsibilities and Duties:
  • Provide consistent before-school and after-school coaching and supervision for dance and cheer practices
  • Assist in all aspects of training and preparation for cheer and dance teams
  • Provide primary coaching support for the middle school team and support the high school team as needed
  • Clean, drill, and refine dance and cheer performance routines
  • Demonstrate and articulate proper dance and cheer techniques during practices
  • Maintain appropriate pace and tempo during practices to ensure training effectiveness
  • Foster a positive, motivating environment for student-athletes
  • Attend all middle school games, middle school competitions, and all middle school/high school event
  • Attend overnight competitions as required
  • Choreograph up to two middle school competition routines at beginner/intermediate level
  • Maintain a safe and well-kept practice and performance facility
  • Communicate effectively with athletic department staff, coaches, managers, and mascots
  • Ensure managers and mascot receives weekly goals and expectations
  • Assist with creating flyers, programs, and related materials using basic design tools
  • Perform other duties as assigned in support of the athletic program
