Department Summary

The University of North Texas at Dallas seeks a dynamic, creative, and student-focused leader to serve as the Dance Coach. This position offers the opportunity to build and lead a competitive and high-energy dance program that enhances school spirit, supports athletic events, and competes within the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) framework.

Position Overview

The Dance Coach will be responsible for developing a program that emphasizes performance excellence, discipline, teamwork, and academic success, while contributing to the overall visibility and growth of UNT Dallas Athletics and campus life.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree required (Dance, Performing Arts, Sports Management, or related field preferred) or 5+ years of relevant experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Experience coaching, choreographing, or performing competitive dance at the high school, collegiate, or advanced club level.
  • Experience building or growing a dance or spirit program preferred.
  • Familiarity with NAIA, NDA, or similar competitive dance organizations is a plus.
  • Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities.
  • Strong background in multiple dance styles (e.g., pom, jazz, hip hop, contemporary).
  • Ability to choreograph and teach high-level routines for performance and competition.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to recruit, mentor, and develop student-athletes.
  • Strong time management skills with the ability to work evenings and weekends.
  • Commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and student success.

Job Duties

  • Recruit and retain talented, diverse student-athletes who align with the mission and academic standards of UNT Dallas.
  • Organize tryouts, clinics, and outreach initiatives to grow the program.
  • Build relationships with high school, club, and community dance programs.
  • Monitor and support academic progress and degree completion.
  • Serve as a mentor and role model, promoting leadership, professionalism, and personal growth.
  • Encourage involvement in campus life and community engagement.
  • Ensure full compliance with NAIA, university, and Title IX regulations.
  • Manage program budget, equipment, uniforms, and inventory.
  • Coordinate travel, scheduling, and logistics for performances and competitions.
  • Collaborate with athletic training staff to support the health and safety of student-athletes.
  • Promote the Dance Program through community outreach, social media, and campus engagement.
  • Partner with Athletics Marketing and Communications to enhance game-day atmosphere and program visibility.
  • Assist with fundraising initiatives, sponsorship development, and donor engagement efforts.
  • Attend athletics staff meetings and contribute to department-wide initiatives.
  • Support other athletic events and special projects as assigned.
  • Maintain strong communication with university staff, faculty, and administration.
